rngr's Debatable Debacle Build

I finally got around to wiring my camper top dome and brake lights. I used this guys method. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/camper-shell-wiring-step-by-step-picture-load-warning.279665/ It was very simple, butI did a couple things differently. I had a couple 2 pole connectors laying around so I cut them in half ( pictured below) rather than buying quick disconnects. I also spliced the ground for both lights to the ground for my tail light. Let there be light!

 

Flashlight mod. I didn't like the idea if mounting it to the flimsy platic on the driver seat so I put it in the sheet metal below the rear seat. I cut the carpet, marked the holes, and ran a couple self-tappers through. It's sturdy as can be.

 

On-board air coming soon in preparation for an ARB rear locker (not so soon). I'll be using the

$310 ARB CKMA12 On-Board Air Compressor High Performance 12 Volt for Air Locker Differentials and Tire Inflation

ARB CKMA12 high output compressor. I'm trying to decide on where to mount it. I'm also kicking around the idea of adding a tank and hose reel in the bed. We will see.

You're welcome. I wish I could have done what you did and find a used topper that's color matched. I tried for a solid 6-months. I think it's like finding a pile of money numbering in the thousands.

And I've thought about it a lot, the truck shell is probably the most useful / functional mod piece on my truck too. It changed the whole dynamic and utility of the truck. Love it!

 

The top was actually silver. Finding a pyrite top was like finding a white buffalo. Maaco painted it for me for $250 or so. Paying full price for a top just wasn't an option for me.

 

Ooops I see where you said that now in the OP, I guess I read too fast. Well +1 on the topper.

 

I have nearly busted my arse a couple times getting in/out when it's raining and the sliders are slick. I'm going to give this a try. It is super gritty and seems very tough. Time will tell.

Stage 1 of operation "No more shit rolling around bed". Thanks to @Crom for the idea for this one. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-getaway-croms-build-and-pics.362772/page-13#post-10592456 I duck hunt, ALOT. Which means I have wet gear laying around, ALOT. I finally have a way to hang it up to dry without leaving the truck. I grabbed some 1" D rings from lowes and a piece of 22ga sheet steel. Cut the metal into 3/4"x3" strips and bend them over the D rings with a vise like so.


Then I drilled some 1/4" holes in the brackets so they will go on the bolts holding my roof rails on, and bolted them down. I used some clothesline wire I had laying around and some cable clamps.

 

I did this too, and it took a little getting used to, getting in and out of truck, but it's been excellent and I like it a lot. Liked it so much that I have put some on the factory back bumper.

And here I thought I was being original with the grit tape. Should have known better. Ha ha. It is working as I hoped.
