The dealer did mine at 30K. I am quickly approaching 60K. Lets see how the dealer did and if they used 6 Densos.

Great write up, changed mine today but my check engine and Trac off lights came on, any ideas why?

 

Honestly no idea. The first thing I would do in your situation is make sure you plugged the vsv connector back in on the drivers side. Next I would check to make sure all the coils are plugged in where you hear them click. After that I would go to the auto parts store and have them check the code that turned the check engine light on.

Thanks for the write up! Did this today. One thing on maybe just the newer trucks. One of the 12mm bolts holding the intake tube down now is a MFer to get to now because of a bracket making it a pain in the ass to remove. I just loosened the big hose clamp holding the intake tube to the air filter box. Took the box off and pulled the intake to the side. Thanks again Chris.

Just replaced mine with some denso iridiums

$11 ikh20tt iridium TT spark plug, (pack of 1)

ikh20tt. It took me 40 minutes or so. Very easy if you have an AFE intake and IMS installed. I could have done it in 30 if i didn't apply anti-seize.

 

Thanks for all the info. That plug on the drivers side nearest the front is a tough to get the harness off........but like you said I just took my time and wiggled it free......Archer

Done yesterday. I've had a diesel truck for the last15 years, so this was the first time in about 20 years I've had to change the spark plugs on a vehicle. I don't remember having to take off so much crap to get to the plugs before. Seems like it was a 20 min job at the most before...and that included driving to the store to get the plugs! Felt like I spent the majority of time taking crap off to get to the plug. Good right up though

 

First time in 25 years I've ever run into a bad new plug. Pain in my ass! Replaced all 6 and fired the motor and detected a miss. Pulled the new plugs to check bad gaps, stuff happens, but all were acceptable from .040 to .043. So I reinstalled the plugs, started her, and still a friggin miss! My ultraguage threw a misfire code this time. Was able to isolate it to plugs on the drivers side by just throwing the 3 old ngks back in. motor ran fine when I put those back in. So I need to scrutinize the 3 newbies, I'll Probably just take them back to Toyota and get three new ones. FML.

 

Cracked insulator on a new plug was the culprit.

 

so I followed the process described here and it wasnt bad at all. I wish I had a thin long nose pliers to pull out the plugs. because they were not sticking in the socket.
Question I have.. How can I know if I changed the spark plugs properly and didnt miss anything?

 

Does your truck run smooth? any parts leftover? did you put antiseize on the plugs before you put them back in? torque them properly? if yes to all, you sound like you are good to go
