How much more travel is the OME/882 over 5100s/Eibach? I currently am running 5100 setup but do plan to upgrade in the future.

Whats wrong with Icons? I don't plan to race through the desert and don't think I will ever do any hard rock crawling or extreme wheeling.

as far as i know, both of those set ups should be about the exact same with stock ucas, nothings wrong with icons, alot of people run them, they are tuned very nicely from the factory for our trucks.

Camburgs are (well, were) made by saw.
Travel is going to be close enough between 5100s and one. get uca's and a set of mid travel coolers that take advantage of the uca if you're looking for more travel. Nothing wrong with icons, though they were better when they were donahoes it seems.

Camburg is a suspension company. SAW makes shocks to their specs to fit their suspension, they are separate companies. That is like saying Total Chaos are made by Fox

Theoretically, travel should be nearly the same as others have mentioned, but if the coil is too damn stiff to compress when you want it you've essentially limited travel. I've wheeled alongside people with the 620lb Eibachs and they're unimpressive to say the least. I like the lighter spring rate of the 882 because it allows you to stuff a front tire nicely and get the most out of your IFS. I ran those both on 5100s and now Nitrocharger Sports:

I've got more research to do before i order, but my coilovers will likely have 600lb or less coils. And that's with a fully armored V6. Lift height is unimportant to me, in fact, I'll be happier and get the best performance with like 1.5-2" of lift.

5100's are far and away the best option. Haters gonna hate, taters gonna tate.

You all know 5100's outperform everything else on the market, that is exactly why they have become so popular on this site.

All claims against the quality and performance are invalid without personal pics for proof.

I currently have LR UCAs. I really don't know if I need more travel or not. So far I really haven't done much wheeling. Some fire roads and a local spot that has a tiny bit of climbing but nothing too special. My goal is to mainly use the truck for camping. hopefully off the beaten path type camping. Wonder if I should just switch the coils to 882s for now to see how I like that or just go ahead and keep saving for extended travel coilovers.

I'm on the fence about which coilover brand I'll go with, but I did get some decent flex out of the 5100s, even with a 4cyl and Eibachs.

Not sure if you're being serious or not... but I know of a few TW members, whose opinions are highly valued by myself and others, who have legitimate proof that the 5100s don't hold up or perform.

I did a lot of research before I put on my OME suspension.

    What he said.

I have 650lb coils on my SAW's, and they ride fine, but don't compress nearly as much as I'd like them to. I bought a set of 500lb coils that I'll be putting on at some point. When you look at the actual spring rates of OME coils, the rates are all the same... the length is pretty much the biggest change between the springs, the greater lift height/load capacity comes from the resulting "preload" of the coil when you stuff a longer coil onto the same size strut or coilover.

So, basically, when you take a 500lb spring on a coilover, without any adjustment for lift, you're just sitting at a 500lb rate, no lift. But when you crank the preload (or on 5100, set the spring seat in a different spot), you increase the base spring rate via preload, thus taking your 500lb spring to 550-600 effective (not accurate numbers, but you get the idea). So my 650lb springs were great at stock height, and would compress reasonably, and at that height were great for an additional load on the front end... but once adjusted for lift, limited up-travel by creating a higher spring rate than optimal.

Looks like well used parts! Congrats! looks as though you have plenty of miles on them, including plenty of use offroad!

No, I'm not really being serious...it is really interesting to me that people always leave out intended use when suggesting or bashing parts and brands....

No picture, your argument is invalid. :D

Not sure that is true. Yes, it rains quite a it here but that alone is not enough to cause a deterioration/corosion as there is almost no road salts used here. However, winter travel to places where roads are salted, this will cause issues.

The RedHead does not look good in blue.

    This is true.

I really liked the SAWs. They performed very well for quite a while. Unfortunately, the 650 lb Eibach coild started to sag under all the weight I carry and the hard wheeling. On a lighter truck they are an excellent choice and cost a less than the others.

This is, or used to be true. Camburg put their name on SAW COs and sold them as a Camburg product.

They did not have a ton of miles on them, and that was before a lot of my serious wheeling, but yes, more than just street miles on those.

Also, if you read some of my other recent posts you'll understand the point I'm trying to get across. I'm not merely bashing 5100s or Bilstein because I had a bad experience. Hell, I'm running 7100s on the rear of my rig I'm quite happy with right now. The problem is people perpetually recommend them either without intended use as you say, without enough knowledge to form an unbiased opinion, or with pure misinformation. 5100s are in fact an upgrade over stock, and that's where it stops. I, like so many others on here, were sold on them under mostly false pretenses.

Regardless, I've learned my lesson and educated myself enough to have a more informed opinion. So for now, I'll continue to play devil's advocate in hopes that someone doesn't give in to the overwhelming voice of TW and make a poor decision.
