I don't even want to look at mine.

Then again I had 3-4 years of great gains so I can't complain overall. Plus a chunk of my investments are in fairly safe funds just because of how young I am.

    Question to Canadians:

How do you feel about all this immigrating promotion to your country?, is there really that huge need of foreign professionals ?

I think @OZ-T and @OICU812 should give this one a go together :D.

Seriously, immigration is the only way to keep Canada growing. 90% of people from my generation can't afford to live the way we do and have more than 2 kids. So then it becomes of question of whether to bring in the ones who couldn't do anything worth while at home in a less developed part of the world or those that could. I prefer those who made something out of a bad situation. Odds are their ceiling is even higher in a good situation.

I think Canada in general has pretty good humour. For example, the dead raccoon in Toronto, or just yesterday in Vancouver was pants-less sky train day. I think about 1500 people rode the public transit sans pants!

I didn't word my post exactly right, wasn't pointing that at you, more at myself. The idea made me laugh but reality of your statement made me a little queasy.

I worked op centers with multiple people using the same work stations for 23 of my 26 yrs on active duty. Once I made it to Superintendent, I was the guy establishing medical supply accounts so I could acquire the alcohol swabs and sanitizer, then staying on my folks to wipe down all their equipment (radio mikes/phone/keyboard etc) between shifts. It used to amaze how fast a bad flu or something similar could wipe out a third of my controllers; or worse yet, keep getting recycled through the group.

There's a huge difference between a phobia and smart hygiene. ;)

Yeah, I'd definitely pass on no pants day. o_O

I'm going to go against the curve and say no pants days are great.

You are more likely to encounter a deadly germ on your own cellphone or a light switch than in someones ass. True story. Those surfaces are never cleaned verses your ass which is, hopefully, cleaned daily. One of the labs I did for one of my biology courses involved plating random surfaces. We found more "potentially deadly" pathogens on things like cell phones, door handles, light switches, and shared keys than we did from toilets, water fountains, eating surfaces, and even the crack of someones ass (yes, someone actually swabbed there own ass as a joke )

Yeah, I can't get your point that you'd rather not touch someones ass germs. All I'm trying to say though is that when you touch something, anything, that isn't cleaned regularly you probably picked up someones ass, or worse, germs anyways. What's even more gross is that, if you touch your phone and transfer that nastiness there, you've just given those germs a nice, warm, and humid place to live considering most people keep their phones in their pockets. Yuck.

Sanitizer can help but most people don't sanitize after they touch everything and those that do probably don't have skin on their hands anymore.

On another note the last few companies I've worked for have really emphasized taking sick days even when you are able to drag your ass in but you're probably contagious. That seems to have really help productivity if you believe the powers that be.

Interesting question, but do you think that's why kids have more allergies and don't seem to be a resilient against illness as they used to be? The world seems awfully full of antiseptics these days. I get the point about an ounce of prevention but I wonder when we've gone to far.

Right now in agriculture they are exploring whether or not a secondary effect of pesticides, other than excessive selection causing resistance, is a lack of pest biodiversity which is accelerating selection towards more and more aggressive pests. I'd be curious if the same sort of research is being done on whether over use of antibiotics and sanitizers could cause the same effects in the viroids, viruses, fungi, and bacteria that infect humans.

If you eliminate the weak competition, do you make the strong stronger...

Dents and scratches, and other stuff.
Antibiotic resistance/pesticide resistance is a real problem. When Darwin sailed on the Beagle, he discovered gross variation in phenotype amongst birds, amphibians, etc. throughout the islands of the Galapagos, based on factors within the local ecosystems. Certain mutations were preferentially selected, probably over millennia. These are animals that live for many years, so generations, and natural selection, cover large amounts of time. Alternatively, the time required for the emergence of new, better selected pathogens that affect us, is much shorter. As we throw penicillin and erythromycin, and all the other broad spectrum antibiotics at everything from mouse farts to whatever, the survivors will be more resistant. This becomes more of a problem as resistance mutation outpaced the development of new antibiotics.

Also, stadium seating is becoming narrower and narrower, is it a conspiracy?

Finally, I think that the hygiene of pantslessness must always by balanced against the aesthetic, on a case by case basis.

In middle 1500's, most aborigines died in my island after spanish came with their bodies full of new viruses, no time to make their bodies resistant to illness since natural selection takes generations to create it. Now new viruses coming from around the world, like ZICA virus, have become a public health problem. People whom make good hygienic habits are less prom to get infected, a simple hand wash with soup can eliminate the risk of getting ill.
