I installed a ReadyLift SST 3/2 lift kit on Jan 5th. After I finished, I drove it home (about 6.5 miles) and the alignment was off with the steering wheel off about 15 degrees or so. Within the first .5 miles, the "Check Vehicle Stability Control System" message appeared on the dash. I assumed it was due to the alignment being off quite a bit, so I didn't think too much about it. The next morning I drove about 1.5 miles to the local shop and had an alignment done as well as new wheels and tires installed. The shop tried to clear the fault code, but their system was only set up for up to 2014 models. At this s point, I had a whopping 329 miles on the odometer.

I was near a dealership today (Jan 8) and dropped in to see if they could clear the fault code. They tried, but it wouldn't clear, so they drove it into the service center and spent about a half hour with it. They came out and said:

Bad news. The codes flagged a message to get Toyota involved. I will have to leave the truck with them and they don't have a loaner for me. They offered to help set up a rental (at my expense).

I said no thanks. This is a dealership that I have had less than great service from in to past and didn't even consider them when shopping for my Tacoma. I called and set up an appointment for Thursday where I bought it from (2 hour drive).

Here is the message I got:
    ImageUploadedByTapatalk1452298905.951315.jpg

And here is the codes they pulled:
    ImageUploadedByTapatalk1452298936.421037.jpg

The truck is covered with snow and ice. I tried rinsing most off at a car wash before taking it in, but it was still snowing so I don't think it helped much. I'm pretty confident in my work doing the lift install, but I'll triple check everything tomorrow. I can't imagine installing a lift would trigger something like this (getting Toyota involved), but they tried to tell me it probably wouldn't be covered under warrant because I did he install. We'll see what the other dealership (where I purchased it) says on Thursday.

If anyone has any helpful info... I would be grateful!

They need to recalibrate the VSC system. Pretty standard problem when lifts get installed.

As usual, second gens had this same problem and there is endless amounts of info in that section on this issue.

This. Was/Is a common outcome with lifted 2nd gens. Don't see why it wouldn't be with 3rd gens too.

Every other post besides his was helpful, and you reply to the one that wasn't.

Your dealership is full of shit by the way, there is no P codes that say "get Toyota involved."

It's a pretty obvious solution, and they're trying to bend you over to "fix it."

Walk in, say you need your VSC recalibrated. They may charge you $100 - let them, they don't owe you a free fix.

    Then you're all set.

Another 35,000 truck with a 300 lift on it. And what is a temporary lift anyway?

You don't even need to go to a dealer, either. Any shop can get the calibration instructions and do it for you, I had mine re-calibrated locally at a tiny, hole in the wall place when I got my alignment done.

No magic. It's just a series of steps.. if you could find the calibration instruction pdf online, you could do it yourself. Possibly.

Thanks for the info. I have already researched this via this forum and Google. I even downloaded the instructions for recalibration (don't have the tools to do it though). I tried explaining this at the dealership, but all they would tell me is that they have to get Toyota involved and I would have to leave the truck with them.

If this is truly all there is wrong... I'm feeling even better about not buying from this dealership.

The dealership I bought from seems to have some knowledgable people (at least a couple). I talked for a while with the parts guy and he seemed to know his stuff. He is the parts guy though and not the service guy, so we'll see.

Anyone have any info on what the code means? If it's just needing recalibration, I won't sweat it since i can get that done Thursday. If it means I'm out of stabilizing fluid..;)

Literally just walk in and say you need to have it re-calibrated, don't say you lifted your truck and got this code, or that you went to another dealer and they said you're fucked and Toyota is going to get you.

Walk in and place an order like you would at Subway.

    Bring your wallet.

Some dealers do it for free, most charge.

You could also make a new thread in the third gen section called "VSC recalibration?" and see if any of the fine folks of this forum happen to have that document available.. then you could try it yourself.

Definitely not the first lifted 2016 here, so odds are reasonable.
