Wouldnt it be better to use Auto LSD for your case, odinsbro? The locking read diff should be more of a last resort as I have understood it.

 

it would be better to use LSD however when you need both locked because ur in sand you dont wanna go too slow. i dont plan on going fast when locked i just want to know how fast is to fast when locked. =)

 

Technically Snoqualmie Pass isn't in Snoqualmie (which is a city close by), which makes a lot of sense

So I was out messing around today in the snow and Crawl control completely proved its worth to me several times. The terrain around here is mostly sand, rock steps and large river cobbles, all saturated with a few days of rain and a few inches of snow. 4Lo alone did alright, but had issues on the hills, MTS set to mud and sand made it up 90% of everything else. But on 4 separate occasions crawl control got me up stuff that I couldn't make without it, no matter the line or speed I tried. And the crazy thing is on two of them, I didn't even have to reverse a bit first, I would get stuck in MTS mode, put it in crawl and it would make it. Very impressive. This video is somewhere around 12% grade, I seemed to be getting stuck on some cobbles around a step up. I was reversing up in case I couldn't make it.

 

Thanks so much for this video. It has been hard to find real world experience with MTS and CRAWL.

I would pay money to see a well done video that showed an outside view of someone attempting different technical stretches of trail and progressively going from 4Lo, locked rear, MTS, MTS and locked, and then CRAWL (with and without locker?). In my vision, they would start from the beginning of the section of trail each time and would have cameras on both sides so the amount of tire slip could be judged. Unfortunately, it won't be me unless it takes a long time for someone to get this done.

 

If I have someone go along with me next time I'll have them get some outside video. There was also one sandy face, a good 20% or so, with snow on it, I tried it in MTS and got about half way up and dug in, just spinning. From that stuck spot I put it in crawl speed 3 and it started pulling itself up the hill, out of the hole, I was amazed. But I didn't let it go all the way because it really started bouncing around a bit and I didn't want to slide sideways. Still, Crawl absolutely works.

 

My Tacoma is a little confused. Its the 2wd 4cyl version but nobody has told HER that.






Better tires and id never even think twice. Luckily this area is less than a mile from home.... If i get stuck , ill call in and have a Jeep to come pull me out.

The tires spin on me here and there, i just reverse a bit and walk on over the hills... Granted its not huge hills or anything... But fun anyway.

Wish there were fun little places like this to go play around my place. There are a few, but all on private/gated land.

 

There's a bigger one a few miles away, but the more serious off roaders are normally making a mess of it so I only visit it in a 4 wheeler.

This one near the house is smaller, and mostly used by 4 wheeler, dirt bike etc. But no one is ever there and it's so close I play there a little in the truck.

I live a mile and a half from a paved road. Love the woods. Just moved back after being in Filthydelphia for 5 years. You couldn't pay me enough to move back to a city.

But it would of been nice if I could of afforded the OR. There's places I'd just love to play around here.

Let me ask you guys...how often after getting your rigs dirty do you wash it and is a bit of caked mud on the underneath ever anything to worry about rushing to wash off? Sure, I can see mud causing serious damage over time but is 24 hours too long to wait before cleaning mud off of components like the lower control arm or the steering knuckle?

 

Caked mud isn't the issue, water is the biggest enemy to a vehicle, whether you wash it or not doesn't really matter.

My problem with mud is if you dont wash it right away, it might poop on its parking spot in my garage or in front of my house haha.

 

Coworker has a 1999 GMC Sierra that only gets washed when it rains. I believe him when he says he has never washed it despite all the mud it has seen. He has had no real problems related to the mud.

 

Where I live mud holds moisture, moisture eventually rots out wheel wells, frames, etc. (Metal) just my climate. I'm sure North Carolina is different, not much salt on the roads to get mixed in with the mud/moisture.
