^^^AH, so the service guy is wrong then, it does not just reset the codes, it adds new ones that arent affected by your drivine style? it will correct the 2-1 shift?

    The TSB says this
    "Applicable Warranty
This repair is covered un the Toyota Federal Emission Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 96 months or 80,000 miles, wchiever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date."

... if you only have 60k it should be free. Also, from what my dealer said, they update the software, not just a reflash. I think the tech might be misinformed.

I got mine done on Wednesday and it is like a new truck. It is actually a little wierd at first becasue I had gotten so used to the bad shifting. It is decidely better in the 2-1 range, but also feels smoother all the way up and down. The service writer pushed back a little bit when I made the appoinment and gave me the "Bring it in and we'll see." When I dropped it off I had the TSB in hand and gave it to them and that was the end of it. It was probably about 15 minutes of work that they billed Toyota about $50 for. I don't see why dealers are reluctant to do this.

Thanks to everyone for putting this information out!!!

    TW ROCKS!!

I just called about having mine done at my next oil change in a few weeks. Of course they want me to reproduce the problem first. I practiced reproducing it all the way home today. Not to hard to do but it doesn't do it every time. I just don't want to have a problem with the dealership after I get their. I think I'm going to call back and ask to speak to the service manager.

Update: I dropped off my truck at Seattle Toyota this morning. I had with me copies of the TSB posted by Luni, THANKS LUNI!! I explained what was going on and my feeling was the tech was probably familiar with this specific problem. He was really cool about it and told me they would try to "replicate the problem, check the transmission & fluid to make sure it's to spec. and then more than likely reflash the computer (ECM)". I pick it up later today and will report back. Mine is a 2008 but my vin #'s match the VDS's on the TSB so we'll see if they do it on an '08 and if it makes a difference.
I went in respectful but not wishy washy about there being a problem. I stated that something is wrong and showed him the TSB copy and again, I think he sort of knew what was going on with it.

I told him, ' at parking lot speeds it floats, like it's disengaged and hunting for the right gear, then it grabs a gear, revs the rpm's then surges forward on it's own. I hope this takes care of it.

DENIED! i picked up my truck. Basically they didn't / couldn't do anything. They checked it out, "couldn't replicate" etc...
So they said: Since it's an 2008 we couldn't do the 2009 TSB reflash, because we don't know if it will mess something up with yours cause it's a 08.
I pointed out that I had VDS numbers in my VIN and then pointed out the TSB # and asked for a print-out of it, the guy hmmm'd & didn't really know where to find it then
introduced me to the Service Manager Ralph Allmand who said he knew exactly what I was talking about and had experienced it in a 09 and was going to try to get some information about the 08's. So I left empty handed but I was expecting this might be the case.
I think Toyota will have to revise / or issue a new TSB to include other years before the dealership will want to mess around with them, which i can understand, i don't know how all the computer information goes together.
It sounds like Toyota needs to hear from folks who have the same problem but with other years. Toyota sounds responsive and the fix seems relatively simple so i can't figure they won't come up with some solution.

I see the number TSB-0373-09. Is there a place I can print the actual Toyota TSB from?

oh man, I don't think anybody's got a hard copy yet, but i'm sure when they do they'll post it. guy at dealership said it only came out 3 weeks ago.
However i'm just a grasshopper here at TacomaWorld, there are far more knowledgeable people than me cruising these threads.

My dealership printed off the tsb for me when they found it. If they're giving you that much grief find a new dealership.

    Thank you for the info.
I just do not want to show up at the dealer and ask them to look it up.
Too easy for them to say nope can't find anything .

I dropped by the dealership again today and spoke to the service manager. Sat down and described the problem. He's a knowledgable guy and was happy to look into it. TSB 3310 came up and my appointment is on Thursday after work :). I'll report back with my findings after the re-flash, which he said would take about 45 minutes.

Went in yesterday expecting a fight, since they had told me that they needed to replicate the problem. I showed them the TSB number, and a different gal at the desk rang it right in. I sat down, fell asleep, and was woken in about 40 minutes. Literally 45 minutes from dropping off the keys to picking them back up.

Hasn't done the 1-2 shuffle yet. If almost sounds a little throatier right now. To be fair though, I just did some wiring the day before, and think it might be a little vibration causing a little vibration (that mod to be posted soon, but nothing ground-breaking).

Thanks to those that posted the TSB number, as well as the OP for hearing about this first!

Just left from the dealership with my Transmission TSB complete. At first the shifting acted course while it began to learn my driving habits. When I made my last few turns headed home, I knew the spots in the road where the tranny would normally act up. The act is over! It shifts so much smoother. Thanks to TW for the info!

Thanks for this. I think now I can check to see if my 2010 has the latest software.

Edit: Went to take a look under the hood, there was no "Toyota Authorized Modifications" tag. I wish I paid more attention when the tech showed me the screen of his lap top hooked up to my truck showing the current version in the truck and what available for upgrade which was blank.

Just got mine done today (TSB 3310 in Canada). The dealer was very helpful when I first made my appointment to get it done and I received the same treatment today when I dropped it off. I simply handed them the keys and picked it up about an hour later all finished.

On the way home I deliberately tried to put myself into situations where the problem would occur before and I now have no issues whatsoever. Responsiveness at low speeds is outstanding and the shifts are much improved. We have semi winter conditions up here right now so I didn't get on the gas that much to see how heavy throttle shifts behave now, but overall, I would say that this TSB has completely resolved the shifting issues.

This forum is bad ass! I've wondered why sometimes my Tacoma idles at a higher rpm and forces me to step on the brake pedal harder. Thanks a lot for the 411. I'll go to my dealer on Sat and show the TSB. Maybe I can get the extra leaf too while I'm there.
