How about telling the service manager that if its full, then you will pay for the check. If it is not full, they pick up the tab. Also you want to be present with the tech when they do the check.

I took this approach with a different vehicle (not a Toyota) and it worked. I didn't have to pay.

Trans fluid was checked at 10K by the local dealer as part of maintenance (did not know that they would do the fluid ck as part of maint). Transmission was 5/8 qt. low.

Took my truck in for 5k mile service. Asked them to check trans fluid. They said it was a pita but still did it and found the fluid to not be low. I had a busy day that day so I couldn't wait around and see them do it with my own eyes. I'm switching dealers for service though because there is one closer to my house and will request that this dealer check the fluid at 10k miles.

So I can't check the T fluid myself?

I also have this issue - TRD OR DCSB With tow package... This is NOT a warm up issue, and should NOT be considered normal or acceptable. Chances are Toyota will deal with this by informing dealers to "top off" transmission fluid at a service interval. Keep in mind we are early adopters to this generation power train... Pretty annoying given that it's not advisable to run a tranny at low fluid levels.

Wondering if anyone knows the exact type of tranny fluid used from factory...? Rant over.

Idling in your driveway isn't going to warm the transmission. You need parts moving for that.

Not trying to be a know it all but, the 3 gen without tow package has a transmission fluid heat exchanger to bring the temp up.
    It's a different animal.

My Ranger had one and it never got the transmission up to full temp. I think it would get up to maybe 135 and it always took another few minutes of moving to actually get up to temp. I would putt around in the Ranger off road until it was up to temp. Then once it was up to temp I'd take off.

I never said there was no benefit to letting the engine warm up, just that idling in your driveway won't warm the transmission to full temp. My Ranger never got above 135 unless I actually started driving it. The only way you're engine and exhaust is going to produce enough radiant heat to warm the transmission to full operating temps is on the transaxle design with everything so tightly packed on top of each other. On a front engine, rear wheel drive design you typically have too much open space between parts to get it to full operating temps just from idling.

I specifically had a temp gauge in my prerunner Ranger just to make sure I wasn't overheating it 100+ miles from camp.

I'm taking the truck again to the dealer this week. The transmission is slipping more and it seems is not getting better. Willing to be the technicians did not check the fluid last time i took it even though they say the did. This is not normal and even if i have to contact Toyota directly I will. no matter what other people say this is not normal for a transmission

If it's getting worse, then you probably do have some sort of problem. There's always a chance they didn't service it the first time, or even took to much out. Good luck, keep us posted.

before it only did it once i backed from my driveway and put in Drive, now is doing it without even backing . Turn on the car and put in Drive and that damn delay is there and then you hear the gear going in, after that is works perfectly but this is driving me crazy. Im waiting for the Service manager to contact me so i can talk to him about this issue . I will also be reporting this to Toyota directly

Is this a result of "Hill Start Assist Control"? My 2016 with 2300 miles has a very quiet little bump that is only noticed when cold when shifting from r to d.

Someone told me it was an A760F and when I googled that I got some info about that being in the tundra. Not saying my info is right, more asking. So what is the transmission that is in the 3rd gen?
