I lived near an EB and basically no other outdoor store for a few years so I have a lot of their gear. Only thing I like are the guide pants and a random daypack I got for school and travel.

To answer you about the Ghost Whisperer, it was perfect functionally, but I just couldn't keep it ha. I sent it back based on looks. Rare for me but I did. I have an Eddie Bauer down jacket now and it's nowhere near what the ghost whisperer was. No contest when it comes to which is better.

Definitely don't have any brand loyalty. One company makes a better coat for your uses, another a better pant, headlamps, shoes, whatever. Unless you're a sponsored athlete with free gear there's no reason to ever have any brand loyalty.

Performance is king ha.

 

Anyone have experience with the Solo Stove Campfire? Some of the car camping spots I have been to lately do not allow campfires and I was thinking maybe I can get a solo stove campfire to double as a stove and campfire for when it gets dark. I really love having a campfire when I camp.

 

No campfires? That's unAmerican.

Yup. Due to the drought. My last few camping trips was without campfire.

 

Should have fire bans lifted after all of the recent rain though.

Thank you. I could fit exactly 1 more rack on that wall, but then I'd lose the space I have for those 5 Army trunks. I have 3 other shelves in the garage up front of where we park our cars. That area needs to be completely gone through and condensed. Then I can move all of the tools and car parts from the camping side of the garage and have that whole wall dedicated to just outdoor activity gear.

There's no way I could put all of my gear into 1, or even 4 backpacks. The variety I have is so that I can modify my kit based on what terrain I'm headed to, what I'll be doing (hiking, car camping, fishing, etc.), weather, and how long I'll be out there. I don't want to duplicate some gear just to pre-pack bags for certain conditions, like special forces do. I'm not that hardcore. I like the flexibility of having my gear organized and labeled in bins so when I know what activity is next, I can quickly pack accordingly.

And I hate to overpack for any trip, so I always take the bare minimum. Nothing kills a trip more than setup/takedown time. I want to be set up in 15 minutes, and broken down and packed up in less than 30.

 

I just want to say that this is one of the most satisfying posts that I have read on the TW site. I appreciate that it is a flame free zone and hope it stays that way!

Now on to spending some money on stuff you have forced me to add to my Amazon list.

 

FYI I quite enjoyed High Sierra: A journey on the John Muir trail on Amazon, thanks to whomever posted that.

I thought about making a separate thread to discuss flight point promotions, cheap tickets, travel gear, destinations, trip reports, etc. but don't know how much interest there would be.

for you guys who use an alcohol stove for cooking, how long do one of those little containers last you?

 

Anybody bikepack? My lady has done it for years. I'm just getting into it. My steed is a Surly Ogre, sleeping in a Grand Trunk hammock, and UST tarp. I carried a Eureka! Tent too which I ended up using due to some major mosquitoes.

 

I'm just now transitioning. I can't hike anymore really so I'm going to give it a shot. Looking at picking up a Karate Monkey. It makes sense. If I can carry ultralight stuff on my back why not carry it on a bike? I honestly don't know why I didn't start sooner.

 

If you like the karate monkey, take a look at the ogre. It has the same frame, but has all the attachments for racks and such.
