    I ALWAYS use my transmission to slow my truck before I use my brakes.

    the automatic transmissions are cooled by the fluid flowing through them...if you put your truck in Nuetral..that will cause the tranny to heat up as the fluid is not moving through to cool it.

    Hes full of shit. I down shift all the time, and have been with every auto I have owned. Sure, breaks are "cheaper", but they can over heat. I use the gears in the Auto as I would in a manual.
