Not sure if anyone else has noticed this on their 1st gen but my 01 DC 4x4 w/ 3.4 has a little hiccup when fueling. If I let the pump fill the tank on it's own, I only end up with about 16 gallons in the tank. When I "top off" really slowly I can get up to 2.5 more gallons in the tank, depending on when the pump decided that's enough on it's own.

Be careful with that. If you over fill it the fuel will go into your evap canister and most likely ruin it. This is something I need to be super cafeful when refilling my stock tank from my aux tank. I won't refill beyond the 7/8 marker (or whatever it is) on the stock fuel gauge.

These are photos of my 2001 Toyota Tacoma DC where I installed a 15.5 Gallon Auxiliary Tank manufactured by Sunset Metal Fabricators 6/2/14 for $907.00. (Including shipping to NC) Call Chuck Atkinson at (503) 429-0895.

    Mailing Address:
    Sunset Metal Fab
    1062 Rose Ave.
    Vernonia, OR 97064

This included Pump, fuses, and switch, (installed at console). The Auxiliary tank is installed where the Spare Tire did sit, but still allows the Spare Tire to ride below the Auxiliary Tank using the Original Spare Tire Cable and Cradle. My Truck is Lifted about 3" and I still have plenty of clearance (not Rock Climbing). Fuel can be pumped from the Auxiliary Tank to the Primary Tank, even while the Truck is underway. With about 34 Gallons, this increases my range substantially.

As you can see in one of the photos, the silver Filler neck comes out of the Tank from below the frame on the Drivers side Rear wheel well and exits to the inside of the rear tire. Rubbing is not an issue. Since this is the same side of the Primary Fuel tank filler neck, filling both tanks is easy.

This auxiliary tank is baffled also. This tank was designed for the standard and extend cab Trucks. I took a chance that it would work for the DC and it fits like a glove. Hope this helps with anyone considering an Auxiliary Fuel Tank for their First Gen Tacoma.

That's awesome! I considered having the filler neck in the wheel well but ended up cutting a hole in the bed. My bed is all mangled from being attacked by a boulder anyway so I figured what's a big hole gonna do?

Auxiliary Tank on the 2001 Toyota Tacoma DC. I wanted to send you guys a little better photo of the Auxiliary Tank Filler as it relates to the Rear Tire and Wheel Well. You can see in the photo below, the silver colored filler neck as it pops out from under the frame and is mounted to the back side of the wheel well so it does not interfere with the travel of the rear tire. In additional, I have included a photo of my Truck.1b6771b93b64c4d15aba9493c5dd7b03_154aeff1faa620ff7b3f0c0b842ba4bf8022f9a7.jpg6a3f69947b931b83918cdfcf5cbbeffa_db88e78f506a19a975d597aec279ba5c48082360.jpg

I have attached the PDF Diagram and Installation Instructions for the Auxiliary Tank for 2001 Toyota Tacoma DC that was fabricated by Sunset Metal Fab. You will notice on the Drawing it says Northwest Metal Products. I believe the designer and original builder of the Tank was NWMP, who sold the company, and rights, to his Cousin Chuck Atkinson of Sunset Metal Fab. Amkaos, this should answer all your questions, but let me know if you have another?

I subbed mine out. My Mechanic, John Rice of YoungBlood's Speed Shop in Raleigh, NC did the work for me. Highly Recommended!

My notes say $525.67, 7/30/2014, but I'm not sure if they did any additional work at the same time, like change the Oil, etc. They spent the good part of a day working on it. Since Fuel was involved, I wanted professional help to install, so I didn't blow myself and the Truck up!

My Truck weighs about 4,725 lbs (with Tools and Toolbox) and gets about 16 mpg, so the extra Tank is a Bonus, and definitely worth it to me.

That's super nice. My F150 tank took me about a year total and cost about $400 total but I can't hang the spare and it's not nearly as clean.
