    It's a lock for the shackle going through the skid plate. The shackle only screws in so for anyone walking through the parking lot of my college for instance, if it weren't for the lock, they could simply walk off with it.

    I actually think it's most worth it for closing the hood. I used to hate having to let it drop and slam each time. But with these struts it closes so nice now. Just a little push when it's almost in the closed position. No more slamming. And they are real nice when opening also. I'm still not used to mine. Only opened and closed a few times so far but each time I say to myself "thank go I did this"
