Hi, we just got our first ever new vehicle! 2016 black Tacoma, manual, 4 cylinder...I'm wondering if anyone knows which convertible car seats fit in the access cab when rear-facing?
    Thanks!

Not a whole lot of room, man. I had trouble finding a rear facing seat to fit in my DC. Good luck.

I hate to say this, but this should have been a major consideration in your decision to buy an AC rather than a DC, I don't know if you could even put a rear-facing car seat in the back of an AC. I have both a forward-facing and a rear-facing in my DC, and while they fit, any less room and it'd be tough.

The only member I know of that may be able to shed some light is @Fightnfire , I know he has two kids in an AC, but they're a little older and I don't know if he ever had them in rear-facing.

I did have my youngest in a rear facing seat in the truck but only for a few months, it wasn't great. My wife had to be several inches forward of where should wanted to be. It was doable though, she didn't hate it and we still chose the truck several times over our other vehicle at the time (The SUV in the pic) I don't know about the 2016 but the 2009 only has the safety restraint system on the driver side... stupid. So, I had to use a seat belt with him behind the passenger seat. I exchanged emails with Toyota to make sure it was considered safe by them for kids in the back of an AC. It was actually the reason I bought an '09, the new safety features introduced in 2009 upgraded the rear of an AC to excellent in crash protection.

I don't have any pictures of rear facing seats in my truck, here are a few of forward facing. I will say once they turn forward there are tons of good options. IMO Britax is hands down the best. They are some of the safest and some of the slimmest for fitting in the back. The empty seat in both pics is the Britax... the seat my oldest is sitting in is a Graco Nautilus, it was also really slim. It's not the booster he sits in. My youngest who is now 5 sits in the same model Britax behind the passenger seat. He's almost ready for a booster.

For rear facing, though convenient, avoid the ones that snap into a base and can be removed from the vehicle like a bassinet. They take up a TON of space. Stick with a high quality Britax and just shop to find the slimmest one when installed in your truck. You can save several inches by being picky.

It sounds silly but the cool thing as they get older they get more room. My oldest, 7, is in a booster and he sits behind me. I'm 6'1" and he has plenty of room. We're snug but we love the AC. 6' bed and at the time 6-8k less than a TRD Sport DCLB. We were in it again for 5 hours today to go tubing up in the mountains.

Wow thank you so much! You've given me lots of options!! And the pictures really help! Thankfully our son won't be rear facing except a few more months.

This is also going to be a concern for me does anyone have any pics of the AC seats without a car seat in there. I'm also curious how they look. Thanks

I have an access cab and use a rear facing car seat in the front seat. The 2016 detects that it is a car seat and automatically disables the airbag. When we are all in the truck my wife sits behind me. The car seat fits forward facing in the back and my son is big enough for that by weight but we felt it would be safer to have him rear face in the front. We use a Britax boulevard click tight.

They work fine, it's tight, but they fit fine.

If I were younger and single, I'd have gone with the AC. This is exactly why I went with the DC.

Maybe if the front passenger is very small and likes being shoved into the dashboard. Also the seat in the back is so narrow the car seat barely sits on it. At least that's how it was in my ac lol

A lot of it comes down to which car seat you choose.. the more expensive the better the fit, safer in a smaller package. I used a couple of 1"x6" boards to extend the seat a couple of inches with a towel over them, they acted as a base for the car seat. My wife is 5'8" and though she was closer than she wanted to be it wasn't terrible. We still chose to take my truck regularly, her choice. Were only talking 6-12 months for rear facing, my kids were out of them ~8 months.

To clarify, if we're talking about one of the infant carriers that snaps into a base that stays in the truck... yea those won't work very well. First off they're not as safe and secondly they are huge.

I've got a Chicco Nextfit in mine rear facing. I do have a DC tho. Its on the passenger side, so it leaves some room for the passenger but not much. My wife sits there comfortably but she's not a giant. I couldn't imagine fitting one or any car seat rear facing in an AC

Just so everyone is aware, in a 2009 Tacoma you're talking about a difference of 4.5" in legroom between a double cab and an access cab... making a fist it's a touch more than the width of my fist. Rear facing car seats absolutely suck in each vehicle. I tried them installed in both vehicles before I purchased my AC.

My wife who is 5'8" fit. The comfort to her was not worth 6-8k. As soon as my youngest could turn around, the space issue disappeared.

"Front legroom measures 40 inches throughout all cabs, while rear legroom measures a leg-cramping 28 inches in the Access and a mediocre 32.6 in the Double. Along with the flat-folding 60/40 second row in the Double, both the Access and Double Cabs include a folding front passenger seat to accommodate longer objects."

I assume your correct on the numbers cause I don't know them. That being said, rear vs fwd facing in either an dc or ac greatly affects how far the seat is moved. If my car seat was fwd faced there would be a lot more room.
