Sensor should be mounted on the steering column. May need a Toyota scan tool to recenter it.

This happened to me when I lifted my 09. Dealer replaced the wire/sensor and problem solved.

I did the calibration while at work today - seemed to work perfectly, but I haven't been able to drive it yet. All lights are now off :). I'll report back after I drive home and test it out.

Made a short drive home from work (about 6.5 miles) and everything seems to be good to go. Thanks everyone for the help. Clearing and recalibrating was super easy and only took about 5 minutes. After actually doing this, I can't believe why anyone would pay to have it done.

A bit of info for people who run into this in the future... The VSC light came on because the computer saw that you were driving down the road with your steering wheel turned but the yaw rate sensor was showing that you were not turning. This causes the computer to think the steering angle sensor is malfunctioning and will turn on the VSC lights. The computer will disable the CRAWL control because it needs inputs from the VSC to function properly. Most VSC codes such as "yaw rate sensor undone" or similar cannot be cleared with any scanner. The problem must be corrected and then the code will clear on its own.

The PDF with the recalibration steps has a section listed as "SST wire". This method can be done with a piece of wire or paper clips (make sure you use the right holes in the OBD plug). Keep in mind that you only have 15 seconds of key on time from the time that you clear the learned values until the time you learn the new values (the instructions may not mention this).

If you dont follow the steps properly or leave the key on too long between steps or dont have the vehicle in park it will fail and throw a yaw rate sensor undone code. If this happens or the VSC lights come back on, then you have to do the procedure over again starting from the begining. The some Toyotas will turn the lights on if the CRAWL control or downhill assist is not calibrated after the SAS/Yaw rate calibration.

Thanks for the thorough explanation. I tested MTS and crawl control and everything seems to work fine. Should I have done the crawl control calibration too? I saw this explained for a 4Runner and image it would be the same for a taco. I'll probably just drive it as it is unless I get any more lights or issues.

No problem. The 4-runners will turn the VSC lights on as soon as you start driving if you dont do the CRAWL and DAC calibrations following the Yaw Rate calibration, I dont know if any of the Tacos will, I have not had that encountered that on any Tacos yet. If your VSC lights didnt come back on then you shouldnt have to worry about it.

I dont think there is a calibration for the MTS anyways.

Sounds good. I had not found anything on calibrating MTS anyway. And no lights came on when driving, so must not have to do Crawl.
    Thank!
