Do you have your key fob set up to unlock all doors when the unlock button is pressed once?

Not normally - one fuse is all is all you need to protect against the load of the solenoid, however if you are worried about the wires being shorted to ground, then a second fuse on the other wire wouldn't be a bad idea. The factory fuse protection should already protect you in this case, but another fuse wouldn't hurt anything.

Did the pop & lock kit today. The install was really easy. It took me about an hour and half of that time was spent running the wires up the wrong side of the truck because the instructions are for a tundra. Then I found the instructions from this thread and did it right in no time. The unit is really loud when it runs. You know it fired.... Mine does still with with the key too so you can with unlock electronically or manually although I will likely not carry the key because that is one more thing in my pocket...

I have ordered these to cover all bases but I will be running 16 ga from the tap points to the tailgate and I think I read the truck wiring is 16 ga as well but someone else my have other info.

yes it's the Canadian site as its proven quite difficult to find these locally in Vancouver area (at least for me).

I would not use posti cap or scotch locks as they are called. They are a problem waiting to happen. If we used at the truck shop you got an ass eating. They will corrode. Not too bad inside, but try to stay away from. Solder is always better.

I couldn't agree more on the scotch lock style. Couldn't get a google hit on a "posti cap" but the posi tap is a much different animal than the scotch lock. Yup solder is best but no way to reverse the install if you chose to in the future.

Finished my install of the pop n lock tonight. No issues and pretty straight forward install. I used the blue posi taps in the above post and they seemed a tad big for the passenger side green and red wires, but they still got the job done nonetheless. I also recommend greasing the pop n lock actuator unit. As far as the sound is concerned, I have a tonneau cover and can barely hear the actuator. I was expecting it to be much louder based on comments in this thread. Perhaps the tonneau cover dampens the sound. Haven't tried it with the tonneau open yet. Will test it tomorrow for curiosity's sake

Can anyone confirm that the Pop & Lock PL8535 is the kit I need for my 2016 DCLBOR?

Sorry to thread jack OP but I think it's too late to apologize at this point, haha. Thanks for the great write up tho.

Also thanks to those that answered about the size positaps to get. Sounds like a 16-18ga will work.

BTW Please remember that cutting wiring could very likely void your warranty. And fighting a big company for a small claim will not be easier because of the magnuson moss whatever. Be careful. Electrical problems are a nightmare. Tapping doesn't cut wires. Positaps are much easier on the wiring than the standard wire taps that are of same construction process is standard electrical connections like the eye joints and plugs that are crimped onto wiring. I haven't does this professionally but hard to imagine a positap corroding. I first saw them on a Amp power steps install years ago and they make things a lot easier.

That is the correct part number.

Can someone help me with this.
If I make the connection to the passenger side door/double click. Does it also work with the unlock button on the driver side door?
If I accidentally close the bed door in the lock position, does it damage anything?

If you tapped into any of the passenger doors the tailgate will not unluck by the drivers door handle by default. You must change this via settings on the headunit to unlock all the doors via the drivers door or single click of the fob.

The lock mechanism simple disengages the tailgate handle so locking it with the tailgate open will not damage it when it is closed.

Just installed the pop & lock kit. Went ahead and bought the posi-tap connectors as recommended by others on this thread. Wired to drivers side and everything worked perfectly. Very happy. Took me 2.5 hours, but I was taking my time and doing everything as cleanly as possible.

I was still debating about whether to make the connection on driver vs passenger side. Wife said think of it as a 5 door. Do you really need it to unlock everything only you get in. Passenger side it is. Plus, like Rrentrop said you could change it in settings. Order the PL8535, blue Posi-tap, and lube for the actuator. Can't wait!
