Someone take me to school on fuse blocks like the Blue Sea. I am fixing to add an air compressor, and an under-hood LED kit. I'm sure as time goes on there will be more. Wiring/electrical stuff makes my head spin, but I'm trying to get better with it. My understanding is the purpose is (1) to keep from having all your aftermarket electric stuff hooked to your battery terminals, and (2) to protect the truck's electrical system by letting you blow a fuse if you pull too much juice. How far off is that? What model do you all use?

I've never used one, but it would definitely make things neater underhood by giving you somewhere for everything to be wired to that isn't a jumble of stuff connected to the battery terminal.

As far as adding fusing, well...fuse everything always. It isn't as much about overloading the electrical system as it is safety. Unfused power likes to make burny things out of cars when something gets a dead short. You've likely seen these burny car things sitting on the side of the interstate from time to time.

Another benefit is that if you use a circuit breaker instead of a fuse from the battery to the distribution block, you can flip the breaker and kill power to everything on that side. Sometimes aftermarket items have higher than normal current draws even when they aren't in use, and can run a battery down in a few days of not driving the vehicle.

It's funny yall say that. I drove I40 from Knoxville to Nashville yesterday and there were more burned spots on the side of that road than I've ever seen before.

you pretty much understand it. But yes, the blue sea makes it so much easier to wire in accessories and manage individual circuits and keep a clean install of wires. I put a 100A breaker (bussman if i remember correctly) in line from the battery to the fuse box. Pic is of my setup.

Thanks man. I may go ahead and grab one while i'm in the wiring mood. That's a good looking bracket yours is mounted on. Homemade? I'm going to be mounting my compressor in that spot so I'm thinking I might mount the blue sea to the trucks fuse box lid.
