This is a fresh new design. I'd love to hear the changes you made as compared to your baseline series. Or better yet, what makes them better than a Tepui Rugged. For example, I read about issues with cover zippers for both companies. Any other efforts for waterproofing / mold deterrence? Pole strength?

What makes them better than Tepui? That will be left up to our customers to decide. We can tell you what differences we have made but you will have to decide if it is better.
We will have a whole list and video the first week of February so you can determine if it is any better.

We do warranty on zippers maybe once ever two to three months for someone. (at-least the folks that let us know) If the zipper is our only warranty issue, we can live with that.

You can only add so much to a fabric. You will get mold if you put them away wet, or if you don't air them out and or make sure they are zipped and covered correctly . We have had one tent closed outside for a few months and has had snow on it for almost two months. When we opened last week there was some condensation on the top of it. But no where else.

Pole strength? We have not had a problem with poles since we upgraded a few years ago to a 1" on the interior frame on all of our tents.

If you have any other questions please let us know.

Dam that reminds me I gotta email tepui the two clips that hold the tent shut on my kukenam broke. It's not the end of the world but it makes zipping up the cover a pita. I was a little disappointed being it's only the second time I used the tent but it was -14

I was actually curious how much of a "snow load" you thought would be "safe" for the Mt Shasta. Been toying with the idea of using the tent for storm chasing skiing and instead of sleeping in the back using the tent. Just been worried how much snow would be considered safe.

Mostly just concerned cause if its a good storm could get 12" or more :)

Though i could just set alarms and knock the snow off every 2-3 hours but thats not as nice as sleeping through the night!

I'm used to backpacking tents - where pole strength is pretty important, but also a place where companies can cut weight. If the RTT's are using 1" poles, then I'm not too concerned about strength.

Winter tent shave the advantage of sharp angles to help keep snow off them though. The Shasta has a nice flat spot where the annex over hang is. So could be quite a bit of weight that piles up there.

Haven't had zipper problems with mine yet. I wonder if anyone will go to a metal zipper?
They must have moved on to buckles instead of Velcro. Mine are Velcro and can't be much better. Only a year or two old and I've worn em out. The strap that holds the ladder down snapped the first time I used it. The two straps that go over the outside are Velcro for me too and are badly worn in the sun and barely hold anymore.
Tepui is responsive has been as helpful as they can be but after their plastic clip breaks or your strap wears out prematurely, the other end of the strap is pop riveted on. They can't do much through the mail far as replacement parts go. Gotta get the ol lady to break out the sewing machine and I'm gonna replace every strap with something actually heavy duty and metal buckles.

Hey what do you guys do to keep the bottom of your doors shut?
CVT and tepui both have no zipper on the bottom.
I noticed it lying in bed and a constant breeze was hitting the door side and blowing up through the bottom of the door right on my head. It was driving me crazy.
