I thought Windows prevented system files from being deleted?

Depends. If you are running the OS a lot of system files are in use and can't be deleted. As long as you are an admin you can delete anything you want if you kill the process that is using the file.

I talked to Bill on the phone and not sure what happened but it seemed when he cloned the original HDD it left system files on the original drive vs moving them to the SSD.

Hmmm, what did he use to clone? Wonder if it's becuase it was a bloatware filled clone that had something a bit different than a Vanilla Win10... Some system driver or something.
I REALLY need to get Win10 on my home laptop. I'm falling behind supporting win7 still.

We didn't have much time to talk because I'm stuck in meetings for most of the day. But it seems that it took the system files and left them on the HDD but cloned everything else over to the SSD. He booted up after cloning was done and everything worked, and was fast, then he formatted the old HDD, rebooted and that was it for the laptop. It said system files were missing.

Since it's possible to split windows installs across 2 hard drives (or partitions) I'm sure something with the cloning software caused the issue. He's going to re-install the OS to the SSD while the HDD is removed to ensure nothing copies over to that drive. Then pop in the HDD, format, and should be good to go.

So in further looking, the cloning software copied the partitions for the recovery files but failed to copy the actual files. The new win 10 I installed back onto the original mech drive did not make the same partitions as the factory install. So, when I get home, Ill simply install the new Win 10 onto the SSD and wipe the mech out to make it a generic data drive rather than holding any OS files on it.

I used EaseUS todo backup to clone as recommended by lifehacker. :smash:

Been playing gears of war for 8 hours. Walked into the bathroom to piss, wife walked in and startled me. Nearly barrel rolled and shot her with my gnasher.

I think it's time I take a break for today lol

Been playing Halo 3 matchmaking again. It's actually easy to find a match.

Craving gears annex with execution though...

I went 12 kills, 10 assists and 3 deaths in Halo 3 for one game with BRs on boundless.

The rest not so good cause my team quit and left me to be raped. I didn't quit, I just hid and went ninja with kills.
