TPMS answers to question

Ha ha, I just had to have a tire replaced, just noticed that they charged me $1.50 for a valve stem. So, I guess at this tire shop the sensors are only $1.50! Thinkin I'll go demand my $1.50 back them toss it in the tip jar!

 

It would be great to track down these constraints and try to build a table of known compatible combinations. When I bought my sensors off eBay, I first searched for the number I got from my dealer. I found one TPM sensor, but that listing mentioned another number that superseded it. I searched for that number and found a seller with about a dozen and indicated they came from Lexus (What's the plural of Lexus? Lexi?) I bought a set and breathed a sigh of relief when they were installed and worked.

 

I bring tires into Discount all the time and get no hassle. I'm sure it depends somewhat on the branch though. My local store sees me about 4 times a year so they get used to seeing me.

 

Have you had Discount re-program TPMS sensors? If so, what do they charge for the service? I'm trying to get a reference point, thanks.

 

^ No I have not. I've never had a vehicle with TPMS before the Tacoma.

 

I bought tires and wheels (take offs) from Discount Tire. I got my TPM sensors off eBay. Discount Tire charged me an additional $8/wheel for sensor rebuild kits (new gaskets etc.) and agreed to reprogram them at no additional charge this time and every time I swap between snows and regular tires. I think they will even do the swap for free. You should ask your local DC because each store may have their own policies. It may also depend on how many tires you've already bought from them. I'm a regular customer.

I bought a brand-new set of 285/70/17 BGF M/T KM2 from Discount Tire for my Jeep not that long ago, and several BFG A/Ts from them over the years, so my name is certainly in their computer for history. I will check out the last shop I used and see what they say, as well as the other shop in town I have dealt with several times. Best case, they will have a minimum charge to swap the sensors and re-program them. Worst case, they might charge more, but less than Toyota...worst of worst, they don't do it at all, I guess...

 

So you have a set of TPMS sensors for each set of wheels correct? And how do you reset the system when alternating between the two sets of wheels?
