Anybody drop AVG antivirus for MS Security Essentials?

I'm running MSE and AVG at them moment just to play with the MSE UI and make sure I like it. I've gotten tired of AVGs prompting for me to upgrade, so its days are numbered.

In the end though, all my data and system images are backed up twice, once offsite, so I'm not too concerned.

 

Also have AVG Free and MSE on my Win7. I will dump AGV soon.

I use Eset Smart Security myself. Doesn't really hog resources.

I will never ever, ever again download that bullshit anti-virus!!!

I had it on my PC and it let a shitload of viruses in. AVG just said "come on in lets get this party started." AVG is just there to make you feel safe & secure. It is completely worthless. I wasn't surfing. My PC was sitting idle. When I came back to it I had a fake security tool up searching for "the viruses". It corrupted my AVG, my browsers. I was unable to do anything online. I couldn't run malware or scan with the antivirus.

I worked on my PC for 40+ hours trying to rid it of the viruses. I ended up getting the worst mother of them all. Virtumonde virus. I was unable to fix my PC. So I had to replace my drive.


If I would have known how bad it is. I never would have installed it.

 

we use McAfee on campus, but i don't use anything on my home machine. constant scanning slows me down too much (maybe if i had a faster machine) i keep a pretty close eye as to what is going on with it. id rather use virtual machines for security purposes but new windows 7 requires your hardware to support virtualization and a virtual win7 is too slow

 

I don't use any antivirus personally. If people would stop clicking on suspicious stuff, they would be fine. Download WOT (an addon for firefox) which gives every website a trust rating. dont click links that have a poor reputation. Check the URL path on the bottom left before clicking anything to make sure it's actually linking to the website it says it is.

On my parents computer however, I switched from Avast to the Microsoft one. It has to be good otherwise it will look bad for Microsoft.

And to the guy that says AVG let him get viruses, anti-virus programs don't stop the newest threats. it is only when those threats are identified (many people get it) that the program will search for them. also, if you click to downlaod it, it wont be scanned. If you choose to run that program, it wont be scanned.
Anti-virus programs are fairly useless at stopping you from getting viruses. they only help to get rid of them once they are there

 

and as far as porn goes, fine a few good sites and stick with them. never click ads on there. that is the worst thing you can do to a computer

and to the person who will say "get a mac", macs get viruses too. there are just far fewer mac users so why would a virus maker choose to target a smaller audience?

You guys really shouldn't be running two A/V programs at the same time. Pick one.

That said, lately I've only been recommending MSE and Avira (easy on system resources and really good detection)

I personally use MSE and ESET Smart Security (depending which computer/partition I'm on) but only one at a time

 

Yep, dropped AVG (which I ran for 3 years) for MSE the week it was released. Several reviews (ArsTechnica comes to mind) went in-depth into MSE and I was impressed... weeks later I'm still impressed with it's lighter footprint and ease of use.

 

How are you guys liking the MSE??

My current antivirus is about to expire and I need another one....

 

i have avg internet security, it works great for me.....i had to buy it because the free edition dont work on xp x64

AVG 9 crashed my computer 5 times before i finally figured out it was AVG doing it...8.5 worked fine...Upgraded to 9 and BAM no more internet...

Aviria is the choice now...might try MSE
