Maybe that's a southwest region thing. In my neck of the woods, no 20-30 yr bro would be caught driving around in a midsize pick up, let alone a toyota! It's not manly enough. Every D-bag flat biller around here is driving a lifted 1500 silveraydo or some beat up late 90's - early 2000's cummins. Taco owners seem to be 40+ crowd.

 

You would be surprised how many modded Honda Odysseys are around NYC area. If it has Honda on it they mod it. This is going to be no different, so even if Honda only Grabs NY, NJ and CA markets that is big chunk of the pie right there.
NY metro Area is estimated at 20 mln people, So thats massive chunk on its own (Canada has 33 mln+)

 

Not sure if I could give up the off-road burliness of the Tacoma, couldn't have the Honda as my lone vehicle. I do see it has great commuter, and a weekender running to trail heads. Not to mention Lowes mulch runs.

Kinda what we do now, have a SUV as her vehicle, which won't even see dirt. I see the Ridgeline filling that role for us...and a vehicle I can toss a dirt bike in the bed.

 

Do you even listen to what you say anymore. So you honestly think the Ridgeline will sell 1000's of trucks to young adults who will mod it because "Honda"! It's not happening.

 

There will always be 5 fullsize American trucks sold for every mid size... well at least as long as gas is affordable.

 

Here the bros are camosexuals...or dieselsexuals...or both! Lotsa jacked up diesels with stacks....gotta have stacks!

 

Gas will spike again and people will start to think about midsizes then realize they get worse mileage as the full size trucks. haha. Imagine the MPG of an aluminum Tacoma with cylinder deactivation.

 

Actually, a V6 tacoma has up to 1620 points for its payload.

 

You're unlikely to see days where Diesel is cheaper than gasoline again as long as the EPA has ULSD requirements in place. It requires just as much if not more refining to clean up diesel that much.

As for cylinder deactivation, that's extremely hard on internal components and accelerates wear and tear and shut down cylinders.

I have to agree with this.
Many young kids drive Civics (either modded or not). When they get older they are loyal to the brand and move to Accord or when starting a family to Odyssey. Then they buy a house and need to make Home Depot runs, or load the bikes or picnic basket for a family day. Natural progression would be to buy another Honda.
I love my Tacoma, but I (My wife & I) have had 4 Hondas (1 Civic and 3 minivans), and would buy a Honda truck any day, just because I have never had a bad experience with them.

 

Honda is and will sell more vehicles to very young drivers.. That includes Rigeline. Even Toyota knows they need to market to young people (look at video of set belt bracket Mike) talking about only 35 - 55 crowd buying Toyota trucks. But 35 crowd that bought Tacoma 10 years ago is now 45, and 55 crowd is now 65. 65 will go for Ridgeline because AWD no transfer case to mess with and more comfortable route.
45 crowd will go more likely for Ford. This is why Ford sales are went up so much, they made nice truck and hit jackpot with right truck fro right generation.

2WD AC V6 is 1540 LB of payload that is the best you can get with V6.
So Honda getting more than 1600 LB with V6 is pretty good.

 

If the interior of the gen3 Tacoma was as nice as the Ridgeline, I would not consider a full size as my next truck. As it stands (and my mind could change), I wont spend 40K on a loaded Tacoma when I can buy a more capable and better interior F150 for similar dollars. Hell, I can buy a King Ranch for 45+K. And, a clear minded assessment would show there is no comparison between a King Ranch F150 and a Limited Tacoma.

I like the Tacoma. I'm driving my 3rd one since 2010. But to be honest...I miss my King Ranch and may go back to one.

 

I will buy a King Ranch to replace the 01 diesel excursion. The 2016 is light years ahead of the 01 when compared to comfort and mpgs. Two very different vehicles to say the least.

I traded my 2014 KR for my current 2015 SR5 Tacoma. At the time last spring, I had just made a substantial property investment so I was in "tighten the belt" mode. That obligation has now been satisfied and I own the property free & clear. It may be time for a new lux truck. I do shutter at the 50-60K msrp, but what the hell, I'm not getting any younger.

 

I read a news article on CBC where it said the record general auto sales are in part due to the extended (6 to 8 years) that a lot of people are using to finance their vehicles.

 

Do you think the 20 to 30 crowd can afford a new Taco? (I know at that age I couldn't). The new Taco's I've seen have been driven by people with gray hair.
