I am embarrassed to ask this, but how in the heck do you lock the tailgate? I removed the key from the key fob but it does not go in to the lock on the tailgate. I obviously tried in both directions.

    What am I missing here?

You should have gotten a separate key - not the one in the fob, but a real key. That's the one that fits the tailgate.

the key in the fob should have fit the tailgate, Toyota kinda dropped the ball on that one....but back on topic, the above post is right should have gotten a key that fits the glove box and the tailgate.

Yep...push button starts come with two fobs and a separate tailgate key. No idea why the ones in the fobs don't work the tailgate...

The one in the fob works for glove box, but not tailgate and the dealership seems clueless. Sweet!

I stand corrected, wonder if we could figure out a conversion for the tailgate....

I did - I put a power lock solenoid in the tailgate. Now the key lives in the center console and the tailgate is always locked when the doors are.

Tell them that you will come down there and show them how it really is and if you are right, they owe you a gas card.

They are wrong. Tell them to read the manual. There are even pictures. You are suppose to get ONE tailgate key. First thing you need to do is get a duplicate made.

Back a few months, when the Tacos first arrived, there is a long thread on this situation. Do recall a few posts about dealers failing to give the purchaser a key. They owe you. Hard to believe your dealer still doesn't know this.

Mine was in the glove box. With no discussion, just hiding there.

I got one tailgate key with delivery of my vehicle.. cost me $21 and 30 minutes for the dealer to figure out what blank to use to make a copy to complement the spare electronic key fob.

The keys that remove from the FOB unlock the driver door and the glove box ... the key has grooves cut along the side of them

The tailgate key is separate and looks like a regular key. I found mine in my glove box when I got my truck.

    Yes 1 ONE!! Tailgate key.

I bought an expensive truck and up I had to get a duplicate tailgate key made.

Kind of cheap if you ask me.

    Yea, you right. $5.

Forget what I paid for my truck but having to go get a duplicate key made was amazing.

Me having to spend the $5 isn't the issue.

I'm on my 8th Toyota/Lexus and this is the first time I didn't get two complete sets of keys.
