Frame rust is with 1st gens too. If you can, try for the 2001+ years. Their interior is a lot nicer. Other than that, make sure the timing belt has been replaced and that's about it.

Looks like most of them that are even close to what I would consider reasonable pricing have salvage titles. Should I not even look at ones with salvage titles or is that something to consider? I'm not sure which questions to ask about a salvage titled Tacoma

I'd steer away from salvaged titles and just wait for a good deal. In the meanwhile, you could slowly add cash to your savings. Eventually, you'll find a good truck with a good price.

Salvage titles can have too many hidden problems that you wouldn't see until you've been in the truck over a month.

I have found some decent deals with lien titles. I did some research but do you all have any opinion on buying cars with this sort of title to it?

My truck had a lien title to it. I still don't understand it well, but as far as I understand it's just the owner borrowed money from the bank to buy the truck. And is paying payments to the bank for the truck.

I bought my truck with cash and the full asking price, so after the title was in my possession, it started again with a clean title.

If I understand how lien titles work correctly, then I wouldn't worry about it. :notsure: You should be fine.

Deck plate, all time auxillary, black billet, xeon bulbs, sockmonkey decals, and lots of back to black.
If it has a lien meet where the lien holder is, fill out paperwork there.... they give you tittle (or are insurance it will be sent and still have paperwork) they get moneys. All good.

Just friendly advice, I think you should post all the Tacos that your considering, up here. And if you can, take lots of pictures. A lot of guys on here can tell if you're being ripped off or not based on price and pics.

Good luck with the hunt

YES. I forgot, don't just give them cash and walk away. Go to the actual bank where the lien holder is.

Some craigslist folks promise to send it after they pay the lein and dont pay off the truck. Sooo, no tittle... then somebody repos your truck because the bank wasnt paid off.

For real yo. Meet at the lender.

That looks really good and the price is awesome.

I'm from California and beat up 4cyl with missing doors and no bed would be the same price.

It looks like the owner kept it pretty much stock besides the wheels. It still has factory rake which means it was probably never lifted. I'm pretty sure that it is a Limited because of the color matched fender flares. (Or the owner coulee just painted the flares) Limiteds don't have the E-Locker, but I wouldn't stress about that. AND it looks like it comes with a new water pump and timing belt which is pretty sweet. Make sure he has the receipts for it or he could just be BSing you. I'd say take it out for a test drive, make sure everything including 4WD works and see how it goes.

Sr5 will have an open not limited slip differential if I recall correctly. Just good to ponder before dropping cash.

pretty sure I can have open or limited but is an optional thing. Just saying yo.

Could you briefly explain what that means? I own a prissy BMW.

Thanks, man! Sounds like good advice. If there is anything else you can think of for my Taco-newb self, please tell me.

And one more piece of advice:

Make sure it has towing hookups for the wires and such along with the actual hitch receiver itself.

The previous owner of my truck said "yeah so cool it has the towing package" and I later found out that it was just the hitch receiver with no wires to anything. I was pretty bummed when I needed to tow something. I had to eventually get my step dad to help me wire it all together and it was just an unnecessary pain in the butt.

Alright, thanks. I'll be sure to ask him.
Also, any idea about how much insurance will run for the one listed above^?
