Difference between the temp/compass? 2005-2008 vs 2009-2011?

Hi I just bought a new to me 2009 Tacoma. It unfortunately has a non-working temp/compass display.

The reason I'm asking the question because I soldered the broken ends of the 510 resistors in the display but it still doesn't work. I may have messed up soldering, fried something or it's broken somewhere else too. After my attempt and reinstall it does not work. So I'm looking for a replacement.

The one for 2005 to 2008 is roughly $100 cheaper depending on store. I was wondering if anyone knew if that will fit a 2009 Tacoma. Thank you.

From what I read here, 05-08 temp/compass gauge is only compatible with 05-08 model year. So you're going to have to get one for 09-above.

Yes sir, probably would say medium. Part that took the longest was running the wires from the overhead console, A-pillar, to the front of the radiator.

Thanks for the replies. It's not personally important to me as I have GPS/Compass/Temp all on my phone that I can mount to the windshield. I just hate having the OEM compass/temp staring at me blankly when it is supposed to be a functional display.

I'm not sure if I want to spend $200 right now to do it myself or $500 at my local Toyota (but they do warranty if it breaks again). I'll consider it in the future when I have more disposable income or if I come across a used unit.

So with that said, for the base or different Tacomas, is there a cover for where that gauge is supposed be?

just because you soldered the 510 resistors does NOT mean they are functional. go to Radio shack (the source, I am old) and buy new ones, for a few bucks you will know for sure.

Definitely a difference between the pre-09 and 09-11. If I recall correctly, the pre-09s read the temp sensor directly, while the 09-11 read the sensor through the AC system, since they routed the temp sensor through the AC after 08. Short answer is that pre-09 front end will not read from an 09-11, unless you wire the temp sensor on your own directly to it.

Just watch ebay for a '09-later overhead compass. I bought mine off of a member years ago. He would post one up every now and then but I don't know if he still does.

If there's no temp/compass gauge, then that spot has a compartment for a garage door opener.

Wow, I'm reading more about this. I see you are right. Folks that do not have the temp/compass gauge have a compartment for a garage door opener. This would be a perfect low cost fix. I'm on a mission to hunt it down.

If anyone knows where I can find one, or of a part number. I would be majorly appreciative. I haven't found the part yet from my searches on OEM Toyota Parts sites.

Actually found a picture of it -- https://www.tacomaworld.com/attachments/cimg4541-jpg.133316/ and https://www.tacomaworld.com/attachments/cimg4545-jpg.133319/

When I bought my used 06, the display wasn't working. I groused to the dealer, since it was listed as one of the things Toyota Certified is supposed to cover. Thought it would need to be replaced, but the service guy found it was a loose relay somewhere in the wiring, and it's worked fine. You might want to try tracing the circuit and make sure everything is tight before forking out the cash.

Thanks, I sent them an email to see if they have refurbished or new on sale for a 2009+. They mentioned they carry them in the FAQs. Hopefully some in stock.

Found the part number for this part# 63650-AD010-B0 and it will fit my vehicle. This will be good until a used compass one pops up. Hopefully this helps those out there to give them more options. I found it for extremely cheap on ebay.
