First thing would be to get out of this wretched state.
Second, after retiring myself, I would retire my close friends and family members.

But first and most important, get a lawyer to sort out all sorts of stuff to make sure you're protected from those "distant relatives" that would be hitting you up left and right for $$$$, and from conveniently getting sued.

Unpopular opinion: I wouldn't want to win that much money in the lottery.

I'd be paranoid about the crazies trying to kidnap me, and fending off legions of really sad stories trying to get me to donate money.

If I did win though, I'd probably be really reasonable, to the point of being boring. I'd have a nice house, a beach house, take care of the family and my future, splurge and buy a bunch of reasonably priced vehicles (I'd maybe have 1 or 2 very low six figure cars, maybe) and then donate the rest to good causes.

Why? At 1.4B, would it matter if Geeves had to press on the pedal a bit harder?

"I do say, Geeves, do a burn out at the next light"...

Shrug. I'd just go anonymous, donate a bunch, invest the rest, and live off in the boonies on my own. I'd have the '84 and the '69 restored into like-new condition but I'd keep 'em because I like 'em. I'd buy the GF that BMW she's been lusting over and trade my Tacoma in on a new Tundra because I like the way they look lifted and armored (and the fuel bill suddenly wouldn't matter)

No high aspirations of penthouses in New York for this guy. Just the ability to live well away from large population groups without having to worry about a day job. That's really all I want. With the amount of land I'd want I'd probably be looking at about $10k a year in property taxes, and maybe another $5k in insurance, food bills, and other miscellaneous expenses. If I could earn enough from my investments to cover that I'd be happy, lol.

I don't think you can in MA, maybe I'm wrong.

My lottery list of vehicles would just be a bunch of random crew of what would grab my fancy at that moment. There's a few on there for sentimental reasons, but the thought of cruising down tot he beach on a warm summer night in a Supra TT Targa with the roof off just seems oh so appealing.

Having a restored 84 would be fun. Would you trim it up into one of the higher models or leave it bare bones?

Hell no, I'd never have a driver. I'd buy cars I want to drive and drive the shit out of them.
I like your take Noel, I'd go similar, just not quite as secluded.

Lol, I'd probably install a radio, but other than that I'd have them leave it as it is, trim-wise. I also might have them tweak the Slant to produce a little more HP while they were rebuilding it. It plows snow and hauls firewood like it's nothing, but between the Slant and Ye Olde NP435 transmission 0-60 takes the better part of a minute with the plow on there...

Meh. I grew up with no neighbors and right now I've got a set that I really don't like. So wanting to move WAY out where I don't have to worry about seeing anybody if I don't want to is probably a knee-jerk reaction to them.
But, I've always wanted to own enough land where you can't see my house from the road. Winning the lottery would certainly make that easier, haha!

I live on a dead-end road, with only about 10 houses on it, but you can see my house really easily from it and I don't like that. Growing up you couldn't see my parent's house or yard from the road, and I didn't realize just how nice it is to have that seclusion until I moved out and didn't have any, lol. Didn't mind it as much when I was younger and just apartment living, but I mind it a lot more now that I've got a mortgage and property taxes but not a lot of privacy.

I hear ya...but I would need to invest in a plow for my truck if my driveway was long enough to hide the house from the street. But I guess winning the powerball would facilitate that!

I grew up at the end of a dead end road. It was a quiet road and all the houses there had kids that were within a few years of each other so it was a lot of fun. The houses could all be seen from the street but were set way back and had huge back yards. I do miss the seclusion as well. I like my current house but do not like living on a main road and having no room. My next house, I will make sure I can't see my neighbors and I will never have another shared driveway again.

That's why I'd keep the '84 and have it resto'd! Long driveway = plow truck, for sure.

Yeah, the GF and I are already looking for land for our next purchase. We'd like to get the land sometime in the next couple of years, get it paid off, and then build. Then maybe see about renting out the current place, or maybe just selling it outright.

I would like to build my own house, that's a life dream of mine. And I mean build my own house, not contract it out although there are some bits I'd probably hire someone to do like the concrete and stone masonry around the fireplace. Everything else, I want to design and build the house myself.

I live in a rural area.....30 acres with 3 acres of lawn and the rest is hill and woods.... Paved the driveway two summers ago... About a month ago some asshat decided it all looked to nice so they spray painted a 5 foot wide happy face on the driveway with white paint. I tried burning it off and then ended up with a wire wheel and a drill. Took most of the paint but you can still see where I removed it. Pisses me off.

For reasons like that I wish I could have built farther from the road.
