My truck is 2 wheel drive with a/c on all the time. 2 years ago I had installed a cherry bomb vortex, it was loud. So I removed it and installed a walker quiet muffler with tailpipe, OEM specs. It's much quieter, but when you accelerate it's loud cause of the new Dough Thorley headers I had installed, no problem on the highway or city just when you accelerate. So I read some reviews and order a Chrome Single Hot Exhaust Tip with Resonator inside it (Hedman part #17121) if it cuts down 2 or more decimals I'll be happy. While I'm at the muffler shop, I'm going to see if they can also install a resonator ahead of the muffler. I want to be able to sleep while I drive. Update on this project the flanged of dough thorley header didn't line up with the stock OEM catalytic converter. That's where I was getting a leak & causing all the noise. After going to two muffler shops and spending $350, the second shop found the leak and welded a pipe directly to the header flange. I could have remove it and mailed it back to the manufacturer, but chose to fix it. Did contact the manufacturer, they stated I had voided the warranty and basically said oh well you're at fault for altering it, have a nice life. The internet is full of dissatisfied customers like me, of their quality and customer service.

I think you're going to have to either email or call someone with the question about it fitting your truck. I assume if Toyota OEM & Ice Headers part numbers are the same for 14/15, then it should also be no problem for the Doug Thorley Headers to fit. To me Ice has beautiful video and instructions, but their headers design/material isn't that good. Doug Thorley paper instructions is crappy, but they make a beautiful high quality header. They even weld a metal logo on the headers. If you get their dyno results, they both give you unrealistic power & torque results. Your lucky to get 4 to 5 hp, but as you know with a 4 cylinder every little bit helps.

Thanks for the reply. I did email them to make sure it fits the 4X4. I'm looking for the torque so hopefully some gains on that end.

I'm misunderstanding but are you running the header now?

Yes, I installed them the the first week in December. With a rust inhibitor it made the job fairly easy. You can make your own brew that's better than store bought rust inhibitor. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WuVBFTzoKc

So how was the torque gain? Noticeable?

Well it sure doesn't give you whiplash! There's no noticeable bog I call it, when accelerating from like 20 to 50 any more. As much extra weight you're lugging around, extend cab and the front differential. It Almost sounds like you should have gotten a 6 cylinder or maybe even change your ring and pinion. Other option is a turbo but that's like $4,000 unless you find a used one.

I choose the 2.7 for a few different reasons. I wanted the reliably that the 2.7 is legendary for, the fuel savings around town compared to the V6, and I got a '12 from the dealership I work at for a very good deal. The truck only had 40,000 kms (24,000 miles)and was mint. I have no issue with the power. The truck can pull my 21 foot fishing boat no issues but if I could get a little more torque with the addition of a header, why not?

That's my same feelings! I would also buy a boat or jet ski, but I'm too lazy to put it in/out of the water, maintain it, and store it!

@billybob50 Why did you go with Doug Thorley over other companies, such as URD?

    • 14-gauge steel tube construction for excellent life span
      • Ceramic-Thermal coating resists and absorbs engine heat for cooler, more efficient performance Tri-Y Headers: engineered to match firing sequences and minimize exhaust resistance. Maximum torque and power gains through 4500 RPMs, increased fuel economy. Their the only ones that I know of that welds their Company logo on to the header. http://www.autoaccessoriesgarage.co...BlvuOdRS6DPpB6FhpPhAp8MBvpA0G5DDpDxoCn-7w_wcB

Anybody get any mpg gains from installing a header on the I4?

    intake and headers
Finished installing my lce headers last night. From what I read from others that had installed it, I assumed it was going to be pretty straightforward. NOPE. Took me 2.5 days lol. Just about every single step of the install, something went wrong (ie: broken bolts, stripped heads, trim for clearance issues, etc.). Major nightmare. But I'm glad to say that it was well worth it. I immediately notice power gains. I have one particular hill in my neighborhood that I have to ride up in 3rd gear. After the headers, I can drive up in 4th easily. Looking forward to see how/if it affects mpg.

In order from first to most recent:
    1. afe pro dry and secondary charcoal removal -- little to no noticeable difference
    2. intake resonator removal -- slight shift in torque from low to mid range and louder
    3. lce headers -- noticeable gain in low end torque and much louder

Great to hear! Please keep us updated - I'm specifically interested on it if you see noticeable MPGs going forward.

Also, no install goes as planned, ever. That's the fun of it! :cookiemonster:

No kidding, I love the low-end gains. You can gear shift at 1&1/4k revs and not bog in any gear on flat ground. F-ing fantastic.

Before and after adding the header I kept track of mpgs. However, I have yet to get my rear O2 flange welded onto the new exhaust pipe so I'm wary of posting up info. I'll try to get back here with a table or a graph when i get around to it. I'll give another update after I alleviate my O2-sensor/CEL issue.

During my install i soaked all the bolts in 50/50 acetone/atf for 3 or 4 days before tackling it. Still, had to cut some of the bolts off with a dremel. Thus is the nature of vehicle modding.

Funny, installed my Dough Thorley headers on a 05 4 cylinder with 94K miles. I didn't have an issue at all!
