Talked to several people at Toyota going up the chain of command and was told i would only be reimbursed for parts if they were purchased before they issued the recall.

Honestly all you can do is get documentation that you attempted to get Toyota to fix your broken/recalled/dangerous parts and that you were told no so when/if anything ever did happen you have an easy win law suit. Besides that it's either wait for the recall to collect new springs or pay out of pocket and forget about it. If by some chance your springs happen to acquire a crack in them though then they have to go ahead and do it, but you may lose your truck for a while until they "order and receive" the new springs so it's a gamble.

I personally am choosing to wait because if the new ones turn out to be crap too then at least I tried to save a little dough. I also don't haul or tow anything heavy so it's not as huge of an issue for me.

I did not read that anywhere in the notice. I will get it back out and read through it again tonight. I have heard of several other members who have called Toyota Corporate complaining about the wait, and Toyota told them if they didn't want to wait for their solution to replace the parts on their own and seek reimbursement. They may have even been in this thread somewhere, but I can't find the posts ATM.

Last I had heard was Toyota was aiming for a Spring 2016 date.

I asked/complained and they said i can pay to replace the parts, and seek reimbursement but i most likely will not get reimbursed unless i bought the parts prior to the recall

Starting to believe this is the case. If I don't see any action by Spring, think I'll upgrade my suspension all around on my own dime. This is looking like it won't bear fruit.

I am personally a bit surprised the feds have let this go on so long. It has already been determined to be safety issue, but yet they let Toyota drag it out for years with no end in sight...

Only so much the feds can do honestly. If Toyota has to make 750,000 sets of these and send them all around the USA or other countries the feds will allow them to do it at a rate that is "cost friendly". Until someone dies from the springs being crap then don't expect anything to be quick. Apparently all the frame recalls are getting these new ones first and the speculation I have read is that we will get our recall once the frame recall ends. Why do you think activists and radicals kill people to get their point heard? The masses do not care until someone they know dies.....

You don't "properly load a trailer" by centering the load over the axle. That causes it to be unstable if it starts to sway. The recommended guideline is 10% of the weight should be on the tongue side of the axle to reduce sway. Balancing it makes it unstable. Loading it to the rear of the axle is a way to make it downright deadly.

Has anybody gotten reimbursed yet for the springs? By the time I got the recall I had already replaced the springs and still have my receipt from Amazon. In the letter it says I should wait for another letter, but doesn't specify if you can start the process of getting reimburse.

I'm just going to say this. Yes putting 10% (In this case a mere 40 lbs) slightly closer towards the tongue can help (Way more so in actual heavy loads or super light and flimsy trailers) it certainly isn't a golden rule by any means. We don't know the size of the load, nor the style or weight of the trailer. If there was any type of suspension then that 10% rule with no real load goes right out the window.

That being said I assumed the guy knew what he was doing and how to assess the situation. Not trying to sound like I'm saying "I'm right and you're wrong" either. But you're taking my words that I was using for him specifically and thinking it's a rule or always proper procedure. My experience is from years of loading and towing everything from small bass boats to 48' flatbeds, reefer units and tankers.

I agree. This is pathetic on Toyotas part. This tight lipped bullshit from dealers and Corporate is just nonsense.

They're just waiting us out til we just go buy our own because I'm betting reimbursement would be much cheaper than producing and replacing everyone's. Standard bullshit business practice that never benefits consumers.

This is what my school of thought has been. They can pay me $500 for a set of Dakars and I cover my own labor, or they can fork out for a set of leaf springs they claim are worth between $500-$700 a piece and the labor rate for a Tech to do the work....it would be a no brainer for them to just pay me a reimbursement.

Swapped mine out myself a few years back (3 to 4 pack) in hopes to carry the payload it should haul. Got tired complaining to dealer. This time, I bypassed the dealer and called Toyota this week regarding the recall. They didn't give me a time line only to say a "fix" is being implemented. Lots of practice at the waiting game!
