NW WA Meet / BS Thread

Well, my scout buddy and my jeep buddy dropped out. One has his mother in-law coming this weekend and the warden says no, the other forgot the monster truck show was this weekend which he's taking his kid to.

So if anyone's going somewhere on Saturday, besides granite falls, let me know. Looks like I might just head into the woods and try to cold call a cat or something.

 

I haven't started on the tire carrier yet so it's still on the drawing board. Can't make up my mind if I want to go with rotopack or jerry cans

 

That's the one I bought. It's always in the truck (in back) in case of emergency. I've got a magnetic antenna I connect to it when I'm on a planned outing, and it works great.

 

I prefer jerry cans but both are good.

 

Any reason?

 

I have some plastic jerry cans around the house so it's something I can build off of, but the rotopax look cleaner. Idk

 

I don't like how tall/long the 4 gallon rotopax are.

Rotopax are super easy to weld up the mount compared to jerry cans, plus they're EAF. But then jerry cans can hold more.

 

Jerry cans are way more practical. For $50 you can get a really nice 5 gallon jerry can, but for $120 you can get a 4 gallon roto pax and thats not including the mounting stuff.

I agree with how the Rotopax attaches to THAT vehicle.
It blocks the rear view but then again with a 35" tire in the way, not much to see, nor do I care unless it is a KW or PB sniffing my tail pipe.
I do like how it is on the left side above the fuel door, makes for quick fill up.

On a side note:
Anyone have/use a Katadyn water filter system?
Got one free from a coworker that has a broken IN fitting.

 

I have the Katadyn Hiker Pro, they are nice systems. I know they sell replacement parts if you have a broken piece.

Haha I just laugh. I drive 3 hrs to wheel with u guys 1 way all the time and I'm from Hawaii.

 

I'll tell you that one of these saved our asses. On a 5 day rafting trip we had 2-5 gallon water jugs to fill, and the Katadyn filled it up 10x faster than any of the other water filters we had.

 

I have the hiker pro as well and it is great. If you have a camelback it comes with attachments that you can take the bite valve off and just plug the tube into the filter to fill up without opening your pack.
