Very. But it had to go. Got laid off, used all my savings to keep it paid and in the end, it was sell or repo. So I chose the smarter option.

The Colorado was on Duratrac's in that article? Interesting! I also noticed that the Ford Rangerette won in 1986? My first thought was: Not much competition.

sorry, but I have to call BS on that. Even to this day an 05 crew loaded with 120k is selling around 10k. And this is 10 years later. after reading a few post of yours, it sounds like you were in a bind, and took the 1st offer. But even that I still find very hard to believe you took 12k, even trade in.

For those that think the competition was light, I think there are only really a handful of vehicles that could beat it. I say there are four great 4x4s out there. The others can be very good but are niche or generally lack a combination of features, capability, and after-market support.

    Smaller truck: Tacoma
    Full size: Raptor
    Heavy duty: Powerwagon
    All-around: Rubicon

Depending on your preferences, needs, and budget, any of those could win against each other.

I was in bind, stated that in another post in this thread... I was laid off, and had to get rid of it or face a possible repossession. Took the smarter option and traded it for a crap price to keep my credit from getting destroyed. Did I want to lose my ass, hell no, but it was smarter than having a repo on my credit for 7 years.

that dealership you traded it in on, made at least 10k on you. guaranteed it sold for 23+ plus when they resold it.

Ok, what is your point? They made money, I kept my saved my credit, everyone won. I know I was losing my ass, I admitted it, I knew it going in, oh well.

Just had a kid, rent to pay, bills to keep up and had no job. The last thing I needed to do was make sure I kept paying on a new truck when I had a vehicle paid off that I could drive. Priorities man.

Well then, on that aspect you're right and I am wrong. My situation was a poor example of proof, but your comment to say I am lying was also a poor way to address the topic. Maybe instead of saying that you're calling bull shit on my scenario was a poor approach and instead you start with your final comment of "my situation was a poor example".

Anyways, now that we filled a page of this thread with nothing, lets get back on the topic that OP started.

Interesting to see how close the Colorado and Tacoma ended up being in the results. I think it's a no brainer to get a Tacoma if your priority is off roading. Everything else, it seems like the twins win out.

Also I find the resale debate hilarious at this point. KBB ranked the twins a very close 3rd and 4th behind the tacoma and 4 runner. About 2% less after 5 years, which is $800 on a 40k vehicle. Certainly not a main reason I would choose a tacoma over a twin.

I had an 06 h3 that I bought for $18k. Traded it in two year later for $18.5k. Oh yeah, I also bought it at the height of gas prices when they were giving trucks and suv's away, and sold it when gas prices went down. Does that mean I now think all GM products have great resale...NO. It's dumb to apply resale values based on different cars in different circumstances.

You forgot about reliability. Tacoma wins that category.

I would say neither wins in that category right now. Show me the reliability data for gen 3 vs. the new twins and I will agree with you.

Why, doesn't past evidence matter? Toyota products beat GM/Chevy products in most metrics most of the time. Don't we use historical data to help inform ourselves in cases where new information is scarce? Is there any reason to suspect the Tacoma's reliability and durability would suddenly and drastically drop?

Depends on the consumer I guess. I don't drive my cars much over 100k miles, which most new cars should do with no problem IF properly maintained. I'm not going to base my purchasing decision now on reliability data that is 10+ years old.

Comparing issues from these forum and twins forums, most of the problems are similar and expected for new platforms.

    Not quite...
    http://www.kbb.com/new-cars/best-resale-value-awards/best-resale-top-10-cars/

Now with a diesel it might even have better resale. That is a big argument the diesel advocates make, it will have much better resale than a gasser. If they are that close and this has a diesel, it might, gasp, have better resale than a tacoma...

Yup, it sucked bad, oh wait, no it finished second and got high remarks off road for capability and fun/handling. Not to mention it has a higher lowest ground clearance front and rear vs the tacoma and better crawl ratio. When people posts blindly it always gets a chuckle out of me, thanks!

Part of the high expense was the accessories and package. I am surprised they did not have the approach, departure and breakover angles listed. Though the Tacoma would win the front hands down I still wonder how much the twins gain with just that valence removed?

Fun to read these off road articles. Wasn't surprised by the winner.
