Going on a snowboarding trip with some buddies from work either the 23rd or 24th of this month. I'm the only one with a truck and so it seems all signs point to me as being the driver that day.
I thought I'd ask you guys for some tips on driving my truck up there.
    It's a 2015, automatic, 4x2 (RWD), stock tires.
Pretty sure we'll be taking chains but what about once we're getting close to the mountain... How often do you guys shift down when driving in these types of roads?
I know I'm a bit of a novice in this area so that's why I'm asking for tips to protect the life of my truck... oh and the life of my buddies too i guess lol. So any helpful tips/advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks guys.

Well depending on the weather, just keep on watch on the weather. I have a house up there. There are plows plowing the road when there's a storm if roads are dangerous to drive on. the main highway should be fine. There are other situations where you might need chains. But if you're going to summit, cal trans are out there plowing the road if there's a storm, making roads a lot more safer to drive on.

Plenty of weight over your rear axle and keep momentum and u should hook well... Unless ur tires are bald then get new tires lol
Plus don't be afraid to let assholes fly past you if u don't feel comfortable at their speed. You will get there eventually where as they may not...

    Thanks fellas!
I barely bought my truck in August of 2015 with approx 5500 miles so far so the tread on my tires shouldn't be bad at all.

I was up there last weekend. Drove up and back on HWY 38. There was a lot of snow on the road Friday but I made it through fine. I used 4 hi but probably could have gotten by with 2 hi. As long as you have chains you should be fine.

    I'm assuming you're referring to 4WD and 2WD?

Do you have Automatic transmission? Did you downshift on any of the steep incline or declines?

I didn't down shift. Being in 4 WD helped some. I was behind a long group of cars both up and down with speeds somewhat limited due to slower drivers. Extra weight in the bed would be a good idea for sure.

    Have fun!
