True, my jerry can is held in my truck bed with zipties cause i havent decided on how to mount it yet haha. I was assuming he was making a bumper from scratch with either a spot for jerry cans or rotos. Those little mounts and locks for the rotos seem like a lot of $$$.

All thread and some angle iron or a small pipe cut long ways and a wingnut works good for jerry cans. Might be redneck but it works good and it is small!

I like them both. They both are just different. Either way your going to spend on the can or the mount. Confusing...

To play devils advocate, honestly , HOW often do you go on trips and need that much extra gas, if ANY?

Id rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it :) lots of situations you can't predict that you might need it

I had both and got rid of the rotopax. I didnt have the fuel version but did have the "storage" and the water one. The storage one (and "first aide" one) are jokes. Dont buy them. Thanks to the hole in the middle you are severely limited as to what can actually fit inside them. The water one (which is the same as the fuel) worked fine. but it had a couple things i disliked. Like not having any sort of spout so you could control water flow. To dump water meant tipping the thing and to stop was tipping it back. Which would be fine for fuel mind you, but for water it sucks not being able to have a spout. I also didnt care for the bed mounts they sell. They work great and would be great for daily driving. But the bottom of the mount isnt supported at all and when bouncing around, that mount would bounce around and smack the bed on big bumps.

But each has pros and cons. Ive moved to jerry cans for fuel and the 5gal spectre cans for water. Though i might pick up a couple waterbricks for water instead. I dont have a mount for them yet but it would be easy to make one if you know someone with a welder! In the mean time i just wedge them between my bed and my spare tire.

Ive been on trips where by the time im filling im up at an 1/8th of a tank. This last summer each leg of our trip i think we were at 1/4 of a tank pretty much.

Sure we had gas and made it but if there had been a blockage or anything and we needed to back track it could have screwed us over. Id rather carry it and not need it than to not have it and need it. Plus its not like i dont use it anyways lol. Usually when i get home i fill up the tacoma or my car with the gas.

Course for the one day events we usually do on here I dont generally bring any. Water always comes with but gas on those trips i dont bring. but those trips are usually sub 30 miles of actual trail

Thanks man. Yeah all the cutting was done with a portable band saw from harbour freight and a grinder. All the metal I got from work from the scrap bin. So far I'm 100 bucks into the hinge from 4x in ovations, and 12 for a prefab towing hitch. I could have made my own hinge and tube but for the cost it didn't make sense.

Not often at all. But i can say I've been in the position of running out of gas in 90* weather in the middle of a forest 80 miles away from a gas station, and its an unsettling one for sure.

This one time I also didnt pay attention to the pump when we were all filling up for a long day of forest roads, and the pump shut off early and i didnt notice till later.... Thats a mistake i wont make again. :frusty:

Am I confused? Are you guys doing the surprise lake run on mlk? If so north bend safeway probably wouldn't be a practical meet spot...
