The only person I've ever known personally to have the head gasket issue had over 330k on it when it blew. Not much to complain about there!
Mine ought to be good to go, since it'll be a fresh rebuild. I can't wait to get that bad boy on the road!

My mom and Aunt have 2013 Outbacks and they really like them. I have heard the 01-03's are one of the best years of the outbacks. I would love to get an 05 Outback XT with the WRX motor

Toyota never made anything that was any fun and AWD. The tercel doesnt count.

Hey now I never said I wouldn't enjoy it, just that I never have needed it. Besides I already spin my wheels enough as it is!

Valid point! All though a 4WD Tercel would be pretty fun. I have heard it has actual transfer case, not sure how true that is.

The only way I would buy a second gen would have been a manual or a 2 Door. I would kill for a 2 door.

Honestly, Subaru's AWD is one of the best in the snow and ice. I don't think Lexus AWD would match it in inclimate weather.

I wanted a 4cyl pickup as a winter beater. Looked on craigslist. Stupid dreams.

They do. I would like to be in the income bracket where that is a winter beater though.
    haha

I agree, as long as the previous owner damage isn't too bad. Mine wasn't the best kept before I got it so I'm sure that affected it on that trip. The intake was once one of the dirtiest my autoshop teacher had ever seen due to at least 2000 miles without an air filter offroad...

Good strategy on the manual/2 door part. From what I hear they're pretty sweet with the 22-RE, but hard to find. On the flip side of your second gen arguement I'd say they're pretty well built everywhere that isn't the engine. The things I've put mine through would kill a lot of vehicles. Like that Tundra I learned most of my off-roading stuff in that @dtaco06 saw would not have survived lol

They are pretty stout. They are pretty much the same as the 1st Gen minus the coil springs in the rear. My 1st Gen was an absolute beast of rig. The 2-doors are super hard to find in any configuration and pretty pricey as well.

Very true. When I first got mine it was kind of forced on me by my step-dad and I HATED it. I actually tried my hardest to break it off-road by just running it very hard over every bump I could find and the thing just kept going. It survived so much it ended up gaining my respect and turning me into a 4Runner person.

Hey now I've been driving a muscle car for the past 6 months and quite a few years since driving that truck. Give me a break lol.

It saddens me to say I've lost all mental memory of the dimentions of that truck :(

Oh, these runners were treated like shit. One is oil starved almost to the point of death, the other one is in poor shape as well, with a messed up head because previous owner tried to helicoil a stripped spark plug hole.
But the bright side is, I have two whole engines to pick and choose parts from. :D

I don't know man. That jump from Firebird to Tundra is pretty big. Your going from being shorter than some semi truck tires to being taller than some 4Runners. Its quite a system shock lol. I'm sure if I was alternating the Firebird with the 4Runner it wouldn't bother me as much lol

Quite lucky. I might have that luxury when I fix my HG because the guy who is gonna help me currently has a '91 that's being parted out which is grate since my valves might be destroyed...
