Still got to have the right image to sell. Ask people how many times a vehicle has come out that fits a need really well but people don't care... they want the look. It's happened a lot.

Just because you're willing to drive a RCSB truck with FJ steelies doesn't mean I want that for my truck even though I could make due with that truck.

It was what kept me away for a while I just could not afford a Tacoma that was not 10+ years old. I understand reliability but a 10 year old truck is still 10 years old. Thing fail do to age and normal use.

Longest short bed you mean. That's sort of like having the longest short bus :p. Okay, I'm kidding, but seriously they just picked a number slightly larger than the short box most trucks come with and ran with it. It looks like this truck is just a bit bigger than all of the competition too. It'll be interesting to see the specs when they are released.

I'm not counting the Ridgeline out. It has merits. I'm just wondering about whether average Joe truck buyer will pick this truck over something from Toyota, GM, or Ford...

The only problem with that is, this quote I found in the comments from above article....

"The Ridgeline is a practical truck in the most impractical segment of buyers in the nation."

The most practical doesn't always sell. Ask the automakers how minivan sales have gone the last ten years. How about those sport luxury crossovers that you can barely fit in...

Same here. Used tacos are a seller's market. I could never wrap my head around paying top dollar for a 10 yr old vehicle. What's even crazier is the 2000's era tuner car market. I have a buddy that was the original owner of a 2006 Mitsubishi EVO 9 MR. He bought it new for $32k, 10 years/115k miles later he sold it for $24k within 5 days of listing on Craigslist. I also have another friend that just bought a 2004 Subaru WRX STI with 210k+ miles for $14k.

Yeah, that market is insane. I know a friend that has a bunch of tuners, though I have no idea how he pays for them, and I literally witnessed a guy offer he 20K cash for his Evo that has over 250K on it... fucking nuts.

One of my friends owns Smith Race Wiring and he did all the wiring on that truck. Here is an exchange I had with him on Facebook:

I love the "based off" comment. So basically it has cylinders just like it right :D.

It's probably similar to how Ford modular V8 is the basis of their racing engines... even though they share basically nothing but a few design cues.

Yeah that's what I meant, I guess that is nice seeing how it's the only configuration that they can make. If the specs are competitive with the other midsizers I expect it to sell very well. They mentioned class leading fuel economy and interior space so we'll have to wait on that.

Point is the midsize class is growing and that's great news it is just going to make them all more competitive and improve. It's going to be interesting once all the new ones come out, including frontier, ridgeline (once specs are released). Jeep has confirmed new jeep pickup, based on the new wrangler platform being made with more aluminum, as well as the ford ranger.
