Well, I got a quote for a snug top. $3200. Does that really sound right?

Wouldn't surprise me, just got a used shell a couple months ago and had it painted. I looked into a new one at the local leer dealer, it was in the mid 2s, we cant get snugtops here but understand them to be more expensive. All said and done the used leer cost me 1100. If you can find a used one that is the right color the savings would be huge.

Funny, I got the same quote today and I almost spit my drink out. I can say for that price it's a huge F no for me.

    Who knows.

You didn't say anything about the shell except brand and price.

For the lowest cost shell that price sucks. For the best shell its normal.

Thats about right. In my area the only Snugtop dealer is at dealership. Extremely expensive. Decided on a Leer for 1500 less!

I just spent the past week pricing shells. I found that for nearly all the same amenities, there has been quite the price difference. I don't know about Snugtop because I would have to drive 2 hours away to even look at them.
For a second to top of the line shell, which included the side sliding Windows and the frameless curved glass in back, as well as pet screens on the sides, front sliding drop down window, carpet headliner and roof tracks they were priced as follows:

    ARE X series $2502
    Raider Vagabond Elite $2342
    Lakeland (Wisco company) $2260
    Leer XR $2140
    Century Ultra Sport $1929

Those prices include everything including install.

I wouldn't be surprised if a quote for me from Snugtop was similar to yours. Snugtop has ridiculous high prices.

SnugTop Rebel is under $1500 base price.

My shell when new was nearly $2600.

They all have varying prices, depending on the model and features.

Used is the only way to get a deal. I paid $700 for a $2600 shell, all I have done is spent $130 since then and it's as good as new, minus some signs of use on the paint.

And it has a Thule roof rack.

Some of these over the top prices must take into account shipping from Long Beach, Ca. to the east coast.
My HiLiner Sport with some options was less than $2000 installed here in SoCal.
Maybe those being bent over should plan a little Road trip Vacation and come back with a shell?

Looking at a leer 100XR myself this past weekend, just couldnt find a used shell anywhere near here in northern VA. My mistake was not buying a loaded camper shell when I was in San Antonio, Texas. Had my choice of any brand at reasonable prices.

Just my two cents, after having a snugtop put on my taco I was not real impressed. the Leer looked incredibly tight and would have been the one I walked out the door with if I had not gotten cold feet and went with a tonneux cover. I bought a Bakflip Fibermax that is flat out awesome, but now I'm thinking I need a camper shell before i move to Alaska in June.

I'll be selling the Bakflip and picking up a Leer 100XR or 100XL with adventure package (racks and some other perks) this month. If I were to drive a few states away and pick-up a used shell (an option), I'd pay an estimated $625 to have it painted to match my truck (MGM) which makes no sense unless a great deal is to be made. The closest I found was a Century Ultra Sport for $750. add the gas expense and the other $625 and I assume it wise to pay the extra $350 for new with warranty.

    Good luck!

Nice work Tofuma. I'm digging that photo too! Is that color MGM?

I tend to be a researchaholic for just about everything I buy and broke down on a camper shell last night in Manassas, VA.
Playing with the versatility, beauty, and functionality of the "high end" Leer 100XQ as opposed to the others there sold me. Liked its' tip out side windows that are frameless (like an SUV), along with the frameless rear window and hidden hinges, and the already includes screened windows, LED dome light, and carpeted headliner. I then splurged on three additional options I felt essential for my big move to Alaska where I know I'll get my money's worth for the 4,000+ mile trek to get there (northern Alaska) and the time I'll spend in the wilderness for the 2-years the Army has me there. Added: 1) a 'removable' front slider window, 2) a Thule Tracker II roof rack with locks, and for all of us Tacoma owners 3) a tail gate lock (that I upgraded to electronic to synch with the existing remote) that still accomodates the rear camera. The price tag out the door with a Leer $125 coupon was $2,833. It arrives in two weeks, I'll post some photos when that 'gem' is on my taco!

I had a Snugtop Rebel on my '14. I got a decent deal on it and paid something like $2,100 -2,000. It had a fold down front window, pet screens, and an upgraded latch and light. I really liked it but, I am not sure what I am going to go with for my '16. I will say one thing. Looking at the prices people pay on the Forum for various shells it sure can vary from city to city.

    Whole lotta stuff
I bought used--$450, Leer 100R. Color matched, sliding windows, locking, plus carpet.

From what I've seen, used is the way to go, it's whether or not you have the patience and diligence to search for a deal.

I put a Snugtop Rebel on my '07 for $2200 installed last spring. It has a fold down window, pet screen, carpeted ceiling and light. Well worth every penny IMO.

No it's pyrite mica, it's hard to tell at night or in pictures whether or not it's pyrite mica or mgm.

the prices do vary between states, but believe that the Leer 100XQ is the closest comparison to the Snugtop Rebel.
I've lived in San Diego, San Antonio and now Virginia over the past three years. The prices you paid for the Snugtop is about the same quote I received in all three cities. The reason my new Leer costs $2,800 was the plus up I made for the options. The Thule Tracker II system with locking pillars/crossbars was a $365 add-on alone. The other big ticket item was my being 'picky' on security to opt for the electronic remote matching tailgate lock. That was $189 plus labor. So bottom line, the new Leer 100XQ was about $2,200 if I had stopped there. The $600 upgrade was all on me :). My original "pop-n-lock" installation was not good. Ordered it online from the manufacturer with the matching key option. Locked myself out of my tailgate twice and vowed to never go through that again. This will be my safeguard for my outdoor gear and during the cross country move.
