I've been driving a truck since 1993. We're you even out of dipers yet? There's actually a point to what I said which you are obviously too dense to understand so I won't try to explain it to you.

Umm.. there are cars more prissy than X5.. in fact the X5 is a real capable 4x4 off-road vehicle. I've had many of them over the years and they've made huge advancements in performance unlike the Tacoma. If BMW had a truck platform I would buy it, but they don't. The Tacoma TRDOR w/ Premium JBL IMO is the best truck out there with features, size and quality that could substitute for an X5.

In case you weren't aware, the Dakar is the most difficult off-road endurance race in the world. X5's are no strangers to its challenge.

Save your 'prissy' comments for the Prius owners.

I must admit I was shocked why I asked the sales guy to open the hood and there were no struts. That hood is heavy!!!

Why do people want this? It's an archaic system that is basically nothing but compromises. You lose shift-on-the-fly when you go to the man handle. Shift on the fly is probably one of the best features of the Tacoma, especially if you drive in a snowy climate. My Sierra has the man handle and it drives me up the wall. "Oh crap I need to put it in 4x4....gotta find a place to pull over hold on".

You can still shift on the fly with the man handle. You can do it in the FJ Cruiser the 4Runner, Jeeps and so on.

Any Toyota truck with a manual transfer case but non-manual hubs can shift on the fly into 4-Hi. It's been that way since the mid-1980s. I don't know why GM hasn't grasped the concept. The reason people want them is they're ultra-reliable. Toyota's transfer cases don't even have an external linkage or shift cable like a lot of GM and Jeep transfer cases. I can trust the man handle to make 4X4 magic happen when I need it to. Can't say the same about Chinese plastic actuators.
