This is the thought process that a lot of buyers will go through if they consider the Ridgeline.

Ultimately I think vehicles are horrible investments...most likely end up with the Tacoma old man version, SR Utility 4 banger package. Looks like I can save myself $6-7000 right of the bat. I really don't need all of the torques... :D Just a cheap reliable DD/bike hauler, that I occasionally take off-road.

I've been following along in this thread for a while now. I've owned Toyotas, Hondas, Fords, and Dodges over my 34 yrs of driving. I have to say the Toyotas and Hondas were my favorites, most reliable, and easiest to work on as well. As long as we're a two car family, I'll stick with my Tacoma and my wife her Highlander. When/if we fully retire, and subsequently decided we only needed one vehicle, this Ridgeline design would get my attention.

Yes and neither of them offer a manual. Perfect for old women and men who are confused by three pedals.

Why does everyone think driving a manual makes you more of a man? I drive one because I like it, but there are plenty of good reasons to get an automatic. Word to the wise, no one thinks you have a bigger dick just because you have three pedals.

Not saying it makes you more of a man, just saying that the other truck manufacturers don't cater to truck buyers who actually want more control over their drivetrain.

Not a fan of the looks or the fact that it isnt 4wd. But shit, that dual tail gate, true fold up rear seats, flat bed and the sealable in bed locked trunk... all that is pretty sweet.

My wife drives a pilot , its a great truck ( best in its class IMHO) so I wouldn't be surprised if the new ridgeline is a great pseudo truck that will sell well.

Ill even go out on a limb and say the new Ridgeline would suit the needs of most taco buyers better then the actual Taco they own, but as with most purchases image trumps reasoning.

When I bought my tacoma in 2008, I could have gotten any model I wanted. My requirements were pretty much V6, AC, long bed and tow package for hauling mine and the wife's motorcycles around. I didn't want or need the TRD sport or OR package. I didn't want/like the hood scoop of the sport and I didn't want/need the stuff like tires/shocks of the OR package. My truck, like 90% of most, seldom leaves the pavement. Nor did I want a DC as I'm the only one in it 99% of the time. I did want an AC cab for my dog and for throwing stuff like tools, groceries or whatever behind the driver seat. That being said, I ended up with pretty much what needed. An SR5, V6, AC, auto with tow package.
The only reason I even got an SR5 over the base was because I like some of the included features like fog lamps, cruise control, power windows and locks,etc..
So I treated myself minimally with some convenience stuff of an SR5.

34 years? Were you born under the Julian Calendar? :p

I bet the old people have driven more manual vehicles than all the young cats put together...just ask Rob, automatics weren't even made when he started!

    So would this:

Especially the people arguing that the Ridgeline is great for young people. Honestly not even the Tacoma, even though it aims for that market, is great for young people. Put a unibody truck, FWD with a locker, on the road for under 20K with 4 seats in it and you'd be attacking most of the market that people think this Ridgeline is so awesome for but with a price tag and mpg that actually draws people to the truck.

A 25 mpg highway rating and minimum estimated 35K price tag isn't going to have people crawling over each other to own a less capable, but good enough, truck.
