I bench but not heavy. I usually work up to 225 for 3 reps. I focus on the muscle contraption and keep the weight low. I am not about that torn shoulder life.

Apparently the torn shoulder is 'going around' at my gym. I was talking to the guy at the desk yesterday and he rattled off 6 people who all had the same tear and surgery scheduled...

    No thanks!

I stare in the mirror and do my best Rocky impression for about 20 mins before each workout.

Actually Saturday and Sunday mornings are super busy for my gym. Usually they have zumba class and a bunch of dyel personal trainers working in the weight room. The upside is more sloots to look at.

Did front squats today for the first time in a while. How should I hold he bar so my wrist doesn't feel like it's going to snap? Had the bar across my chest and palms up under it with my fingers against my chest/lower shoulder. My left wrist (and I'm left handed) felt like it was going to go. It got worse the lower I went. I was doing that much weight either. 185x5 but after about 3 I was questioning bailing to save my wrist...

...also I smashed my shin again on box jumps

I don't even put my wrists under it. I just lay the bar across where the front delt and shoulder make a little pocket for it and just cross my arms and put my hands over top of the bar.

    Screw box jumps man haha

My wrists aren't flexible enough to do that. This is how I front squat.

My left wrist isn't flexible after I broke it. That's how I have to hold the bar to do front squats. It also makes you make sure you keep your torso straight, otherwise the bar tried to roll down your arms.

There's a few variations of how to do it. My wrists don't do that shit either. I either do the ones like he posted above or a version where I have my arms at a 90 degree angle (like you're shaking someone's hand) and let the bar rest in my elbow crease. That way is kinda awkward, but it pretty much does the same thing, but with the bar lower. The way he posted above is the most comfortable to me though...even though it's not even really that comfortable when you've got a lot of weight on there.

The best quad exercise I've found that uses the bar is the hack squat. Very comfortable and easy to do:

Well gentlemen, my gym woes have been solved. I decided to go to the registrar at school yesterday and move some of my classes around. Now, I only go on Mon & Wed and my classes are basically Monday morning and all day Wednesday, so I don't have to go to the gym in the mornings. I have like a 5-6 hr break between 2 classes on Wed and have found an Anytime Fitness .2 miles away from my school, so that's an option, too, if I have some downtime. Thank Jesus I can sleep in still!

Yep...I had shoulder surgery in sept of 2014 for a torn rotator cuff. That was due to a dirtbike accident back in 2010 but I didn't want a military dr to touch it so I did rehab and built the muscles up around it to help compensate. Eventually the wear from lifting caught up and my shoulder would pop constantly and cause pain so I said fuck it and had the surgery. It's much better now but still hurts occasionally. That's why I'm kind of hesitant to hit 315 on bench and not trying to rush it.

With your arms straight out? How much weight can you do like that, I don't think my arms alone could handle that much if the weight was elevated out on my elbows

I don't know why but that description made me think of this...

Zach be in the gym on leg day like...

hahahahahha no. that's a zombie squat and you can hardly do any weight on those because of balancing issues...I don't like that lift:

I'm talking about holding your elbows into your ribs like you're holding a gun or a dinner platter or something. I can't find a picture of the lift, but this is what you should look like and the bar just sits in your elbow crease:

Like I said, to me, there's no good variation of front squats because it's just such an uncomfortable lift, which is why I prefer hack squats, but this is one of the less-shittier variations of it

I keep trying to force myself into learning the bent wrist method for front squats but I always bitch out on it too.. For now, I think I'll continue doing the crossover method as the Panther fan suggested.

    That makes more sense

I like hacks too. I did both front squats and hack squats yesterday.
