No it allows a longer shock without bottoming out early

If I have time i'll draw a picture

Haha, I am here to learn more than anyone. I don't even have limit straps yet. Just have been in the planning processes of it so I have been gathering lots of info lately.

Changing the shock mount location like @PLC721 says, allows room for a longer shock.

Let's say you want to have a rear shock set up with 12" of travel. Well if you want to get the full use out of this, your length of the shock mounted at ride height will need to be longer than stock from eye to eye. With my shock relocation kit from BAMF, my shock length at ride height is 23". My shocks are Bilstein 5125's with 12" of travel, specs are below. So you can see that I have about 6.7" of down travel and 5.1" of up travel.

Inboard is a great idea and I think even @JLee has his 1st gen inboard in the rear. The BAMF relocate is a stout mofo. I'm only expecting a tiny bit of scrubbing with my setup.
I'll be going through all of that soon enough and see what we come up with at install after cycling it all.

    As said in the post
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...f-overland-build.302427/page-72#post-11526794
Yeah I just made a new one out back and used a couple sandwich plates so I could remove it if I needed to change the shock angle. All the material was leftover scrap I had from building bed rack and a few other projects I had done.

The axle mounts are 1/4" and are mounted "sideways" to minimize any bind from side to side motion as the axle articulates. I see alot of people mount the shocks with the heims/bushings mounted the other way (forward to back on the axle) and often wonder why, but maybe the binding is not an issue.

I also mounted the top in double sheer, didn't want a bolt or tab to break and send a shock flying into my bed or under a tire LOL. I've seen others just use a bolt welded to the crossmember in single sheer but to add the extra tab added minimal work for a better setup

There are arguments back and forth about angling the shocks inward and not having as good response but I had mine valved from DSMstiffer to compensate for the angle, my truck drive fine up to 80 mph and I've towed my 4runner a good distance without issue with this setup as well.

No doubt it is an awesome setup, I have it. But if I were to go through the process again I would certainly go inboard

Found it. The only problem I see with this setup is the dampening. The more a shock is angled the more its dampening capabilities are going to be hindered. For crawling this setup would be fine but for high speed stuff it would be more limited in than something that puts the shocks more vertical.

Got it, I don't doubt they perform well. For crawling, where most of the time the wheels are drooping and flexing independently of each other over varying obstacles and the shock is just helping to control those slow smooth movements I can see this setup as being better than the BAMF or Pelfrey relocation kit.

In high speed desert type stuff where you are hitting bumps at high speeds and the axle and both wheels are getting stuffed and dropping out at same time, a shock that is vertical and close to perpendicular to the axle is going to be better.

I have 3.5BS wheels so I shouldn't have any issues at all with one of those kits. May even try to stick 2.5s in there vs the 2.0 that are commonly used with the kit.
