how many local gun lovers on here? was talking with another local taco member and thinking maybe it would be easier to have a TW meet at a local gun range than it would be to have a LI off road get together.

Yea. I'll probably be back. I already hate it in Florida. I have the ruger 10/22. I love it. Its a great starter. My friend has a savage. He likes it. I wound up changing the barrel and the stock out

got any pics? yea i am leaning towards ruger over savage as well. some of these modded 10/22 rifles i see online are awesome, starting to wonder if it just makes sense to build it as opposed to buying one and replacing parts.

I'll be back to the house in a few hours. I can get you pics. I got the ruger on sale, so it wasn't too bad price wise. I'd check out midwayusa.com for any accessories. They are generally priced well.

Sweet looking firearms, I really like the idea of putting that style stock (on the savage) on the 22 I'm looking into getting. Let's do a local range together for a tacos & ammo meet. I'll buy ammo if you can teach me a few things! I have not visited any of the ranges on the island yet and I know we have a few. My gfs father has land up in Delhi though and we shoot some targets and skeet with some of his guns, 10/22 Ruger, mossberg pistol grip pump shot gun and a classy looking old Remington pump shot gun. I'm looking into getting a few different things to play with, it's easier than wheeling sadly on this island!

    Ruger 10/22 Modders/Owners Thread
So, I bought a Ruger 10/22 yesterday and waiting for it to get out of jail. I have been reading a lot about them and the immense aftermarket for them. I sprung for the Target edition so hopefully it wont need massive upgrades. Maybe a different stock and some trigger work. lets see what everyone else has done to theirs. It's like the AR15 of .22lrs. I bought a 22 because I'm pretty new to guns and not really interested in huntting and more interested in target shooting. just a few times at the range with my old Marlin 60 in the past couple weeks and im happy i went this way. I was shooting 200-300 rounds in a trip to the range and the guys shooting bigger centerfire stuff would show up, shoot 20 rounds, and go home. I really just want to shoot a lot and not break the bank. I also picked up a Marlin 795 for the wife and a Browning Buckmark camper 22lr pistol, so that i can learn to shoot a pistol. I plan to get a bigger handgun later down the road. anyways.... this thread is about the 10/22 so lets talk about that one.

I can't teach you the cool shit I know at ranges on the island. They don't allow any combat type shooting, it's annoying

lol fair enough, I was thinking more like maybe taking apart and re assembling a rifle, maintenance, over all proper etiquette or things to practice on. I have shot a lot of different things but always on private property on big farm land so I have been reading a lot and all but still first hand learning from a person I think goes a long way. Another local member who showed interest in a taco and ammo meet had mentioned a range in PA near Cabellas that was very open and lax about things compared to the island, could be a good idea maybe pick up rounds at Cabellas and go have some fun, maybe even camp the night or wheel around as there are a bunch of trails I believe in that area, atv/dirtbikes/4x4.

Would probably be best to get the ammo for the 22 before you travel all that way. I still have trouble finding it sometimes. Thankfully there was a semi local shop to me back on the island in Bridgehampton that sold it and pretty much always had it available . So I was able to stock up quite a bit. My gun isn't as awesome looking as Doug's and brutals, but I like my rubber stock.IMG_20160115_141222908.jpg

I would be down for that. I could probably teach you a few things then haha. Actually I have an airsoft AR. Setting up paper/metal targets to practice movement and other tactical drills wouldn't be too hard.
