Which subcompact 9mm?

I am looking for a subcompact 9mm to use as my carry weapon. I have it narrowed down to 3. Please let me know which one you prefer and why!

1 Sig P239
2 Glock G 26
3 Springfield XD Sub Compact

 

You can't go wrong with a glock. I carry a G37 for service and own a G22 as my personal.

 

Have you checked out the Kahr PM9 and slightly larger P9? The PM9 is smaller and more easily concealed than any of the pistols you listed. The P9 is about the same print but slimmer and easier to conceal. The action on the Kahrs is similar to a Glock or XD.

 

Ima Glock guy... My concealed carry is a G27 (.40) and I love it! But, I'm really diggin' the Springfields right now! I would shoot all three and mix n' match 9,40 & 45 to see what you're most comfortable with. Good Luck!!

 

I have a Kel-tec PF9. It has been a very reliable, accurate carry weapon. I was carrying it on the farm (I usually always carry something) and was cleaning out the spill way of the pond knee deep in mud when I drooped it in about 2 feet of muddy water and slop. I picked it up slung it off and proceeded to empty the mag. What a torture test. I could not believe it, it fired every round. I completely dismantled it to clean it and have never had a problem with with it. Besides its advertised as the worlds smallest, lightest 9mm.

 

XD if I was going to choose. It might be a good idea to rent each and see which one rides most comfortably.

 

It's certainly about what fits. I've handled the Glock only, not actually fired it though (in the group you mentioned). It felt "OK" but not perfect for my hands. Gotta love the size though, really concealable.

I didn't vote, since my opinion is as uninformed as yours!

 

Love my G26, keep in mind if you put on a pinky extension its roughly the same feel/size as a standard G19. I carry them both evenly since they fit interchangably in my carry gear.

I do like my 26 but can group just a hair better with the 19.

Like these guys say the Kahr is hard to beat for slimness and consealablity. But I love my dishwasher safe pieces .

 

I don't think you could really go wrong, i have an XD subcompact and I love it. I have the high cap mag so I can have 15 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber, solid gun imo.

 

I have used the P239 as my off-duty gun since I started with the police department. I have had it on my side almost constantly since. It is as accurate as the day I bought it and it was darn accurate then. It has worn extremely well also. I have shot a couple thousand rounds through it as well. It is as safe a gun as they come. Far safer than the Glock or Springfield.

In the end, see if you can try all three out first. Shoot them and handle them, a gun should feel right to you, not to someone else...

 

I voted for the XD. I have shot glocks, 19, 26, and 23. They just don't fit my hand well. My wife has a XD compact and I really like the way it handles. I agree with the poster above about the Kahr. I had a CW9, which is the same pistol as the P9, but is had roll engraving, fixed sights and a couple MIM parts, but is a couple hundred cheaper. It is a very flat pistol and carries great. I could even paocket carry in my cargo shorts. I traded it for a Ruger LCR that I can pocket carry everyday.

 

All good choices... I've got the XD in .45, the Sig in .40... I was looking at the Glock for 9mm, but the H&K USP Compact just fit my hand better.

 

i would go with the G27, the .40 S&W packs a punch and you can buy drop in conversion barrels (pretty cheap) that will allow you to shoot 9mm, .357, and .22 rounds (if im not mistaken, perhaps someone else can back me up there)....pretty versatile and much easier on the pocket book if your just looking to build muscle memory at the range.

 

I would go with the Glock 19. Not much bigger than the 26 and actually smaller than a Sig 239. And naturally lighter.

 

Interesting to see this post, I just picked up the Kel-Tec PF9 today at a local gun show. I had spent some time checking out the options and reviews, and this gun fit my needs perfectly. I've already got an XD-45 for home, but needed something small for the truck and concealed carry. This PF9 is a tiny gun (comparable to the Kahr, but much smaller than the options you listed). Especially for the price ~$250, the PF9 was the obvious choice for me. Let us know what you end up with.

 

I have been carrying my G26 for some time in a Kramer IWB 3 holster. Conceals great for me. Lightweight with plenty of firepower. Never a malfunction. I have never tried an XD sub compact. I have tried an XD compact and was very pleased with the way I was able to place my shots where I wanted.

 

That's my pick...never leave home home without it.

 

I'd pass on the Beretta, Kahr, and Keltecs. I have personally witnessed way to many problems with both Keltecs and Kahrs. Most would be classified as user caused, mostly limp wrist causing fte, etc but IMO you never know how you may need to hold a gun (strange orientation, wounded, etc) and if it doesn't go bang you might as well not have it. Additionally for me these handle extremely uncomfortably (big hands, small gun FTL). Passing on the Beretta is just my opinion (I don't know much about their offerings besides the 92).

Your original list is a good one if you must have a "subcompact". The only other model I might think of adding to your consideration are HK's; specifically the P30 is amazing. Between what you have listed though and price/performance considerations I'd go Glock or XD, whichever fits your hand better and whichever you shoot better (or in general whichever you feel you will be most effective with). I prefer the ergo's and grip angle of the XD series and currently I have a 45 Tactical, XDm 9mm, and XDSC 9mm. I typically carry the HK P30 and occasionally a S&W642. I haven't really relied on the XDSC 9mm since I purchased the HK...

 

i have a larger hand and every glock i have held just dont do it for me!!! I have a xd-9 compact which i really like, the xdm has adjustable handle straps also to fine tune the feel in your hand, over all a great pistol i feel everyone drinks the glock kool-aid!!!!
