screw it into the bed?

 

Well yeah the one screw went in fine and the other sheared off as I was tightening it. Then mounted the antenna and the mount just rotates under the high speed I guess

 

I've got a aluminum mount backed by a metal plate so it sits right on the track. I'll run a ground wire to the mounting bolt

 

get some washers or t-slot nuts and bolt it to the bed rail

 

So you don't have it mounted back by the tailgate? It's by the bed rail about a foot forward?

 

@TAZ2014Taco get some 3/8 bolts and washers to slide through track. How I mounted mine

 

That's what I did, mines in the same spot.

 

That's how I had it mounted first but I thought everyone was saying it needed to be further back by the tailgate lol I'll remount it so it's the end of the bed rails then

just like Tim's all the way back, I doubled up on washers since my big ass antenna bent them

Mine is where @SpruceTaco mounted his. It don't have to be by the back. Didn't someone say it bounces off the roof?

 

yep, I was saying mine is mounted like yours. mine is all the way at the back

 

That's what I was told, the roof provides a better ground plane.

I used the bolt & knob from one of my tie downs. You can see my ground wire behind the knob. I had to make my own mount so I could use it with the bed cover.

Ideally, it would be best to have the antenna in the center of the roof which is where it would bounce like a trampoline, only reason mine is so far back is because of how big it is. Here is a good read

Yeah that's what cb world told me, center of roof is the ideal place & right behind the cab would be the next best choice. About 50% of the signal bounces off the roof. When we went to the Tamlando meet I had no problem at all hearing you at the head of the convoy when I was in the back.
I was even able to talk to Nam & Seth with me on the causeway & them on the Howard Franklin but over water changes things. Haha
