Very curious to watch this later. I wonder how they did the starts (started at idle, then floor it)?. Did they use the ECT button (does it even change anything at wide open throttle)? If they used an AT, I wonder how much it would change with an MT and a proper clutch drop? Hmmm.

    Car and Driver pulled a 6.9s from a 2005 DCLB: http://media.caranddriver.com/files...-4x4-v-6-long-bed0702-toytac-ltinitial-ts.pdf

Brake torque, launch in 4Hi and revert to 2Hi once you hit 3rd gear.

My 02 does feel faster off the line than a gen 2 or gen 3. It's way lighter and it's power comes low in the RPM band. On the highway though, all bets are off. 2nd and 3rd gen are the way to go.

Just stating what magazines do when measuring acceleration. They also dump the clutch at redline with manuals... though in the case of the Taco the manual was still slower :).

Yeah the 3rd gen feels very similar to the 2nd gen off the line but it is a little slower. I think the 3rd gen would win the quarter mile though.

Well now you know it is faster from a stop at least. 3rd gen guys better watch out if they pull up next to a little S-runner at a stop light. LOL. Those little guys would embarrass a 3rd gen.

Yeah, that looked like a good spanking. It really surprised me to be honest, since the 3rd gen finished the Ike uphill haul test so much faster than the 2nd gen (44 seconds).

lol I guess most people haven't drive a lifted 22re, this 2016 v6 thing has a ton of power. Even the old 3rz manual trans felt like a sports car to me. Still have not opened up this new truck on the highway yet, but im sure its fast enough

Lol. It's governor limited to not outrun the T speed rating on the tires. And because of speedometer error, actual top speed attained is less.

The press vehicles are often preproduction units unfit for resale, so ultimately they either get scuttled, donated to tech schools, or turned into test mules like this one:

^It did prototype the TRD supercharger. Note the top-mount intercooler that was designed to take air from the hood skewp:
