The efficiency of most autos nowadays is up to the point where there is virtually no real difference in the mileage you will get. Maybe a little better with a manual, but not the difference there was 10-15 years ago.

The 6spd manual in the 2nd gen taco isn't geared correctly, OD isn't geared high enough.

OZ-T, I get your joke. Most of us here actually have dicks too.

I am really interested to know whether anyone showed you the interest to teach you how to drive a manual transmission.

I find it hard to believe.

BMW still offers manuals, but not in all models. Most BMW enthusiasts still prefer manuals, me included.

I imagine the extra cost of a manual transmission is compensated the first time you pop the clutch at redline, not that I would know

I'd believe that. I'm sure they've been getting better and better over the years. Ultimately if the performance is so similar it boils down to pure personal choice. I personally like having direct control of the shifting and engine rpm.

Also, I don't know if anyone else has this experience but I find it a lot easier to speed with an auto. I find that when I'm driving a stick I usually end up driving slower and paying more attention to everything in general.

Tell me about that automatic in heavy sand or pulling large trailer up a long grade. No overheat on my manual. As far as traffic that is what 4lo is for. Even use my truck to pull a grader blade for the driveway. Don't believe and automatic will take that abuse. From an old guy in his mid fifties.

That's true in some cases. Although, when I retired from driving a semi, some companies were starting to put automatic transmissions in Peterbilts and Freightliners. it all depends on what it's designed to do, I guess. Some of the folks like Ford and G.M are running autos in super duty trucks, but of course, those trannys were designed for that use.

Maybe they just aren't marketing the manual properly. In this age of hipsters, organic this and that, and hand made whatevers the ad campaign for the manual should be something like,

"A vintage style gear shifting experience, each gear, hand selected at the peak of performance by a skilled operator well versed in the technologies and techniques long forgotten by most. In these times where nothing seems to be certain, be assured of this, 'Yes, you are in third gear.'"
