that's not what I said, I said they have R&D.. Honda can build state of the art race cars, motorcycles and jet engines. Building a proper truck should be a cakewalk by comparison.. they just don't know how or even care to do it. They are overly focused on their target market and haven't tried to go after different consumers. This is evident in the cars they build today vs the cars they were building 20-30 years ago

    Yep.

Honda's customer base, views their vehicles as appliances, they just something reliable and comfortable to get around town. Take it into the dealer to get serviced, and not have to worry about it.

Where-as it seems Toyota is more concerned about image lately, than simply having basic 4WD appliance. The Tacoma could be better, a lot better. Toyota is loosing their way, imo. They use to just do their own thing like Honda, now it feels like they are catering to typical American male thought process...it's bigger, it must be better.

That truck yeah piece fricken nails it.

You know I went and looked at the ridgeline a bit more. This looks like the kind of truck that would do great with the city crowd. Comfort and convenience are important, good gas mileage, etc. You can throw some stuff in the back, but obviously this isn't for the off roader or person needing a truck to be used for lots of hauling, etc. It will sell. It will have an audience that its perfect for. If only Toyota would do a litttttle more on the comfort part our trucks would be perfect. You know make the OR less comfy, and the Sport More comfy. :)

This really shouldn't be shocking or surprising to anyone. They're big business. They're here to make as much money as possible. So if by marketing to the average compensating, bigger is better, I need to look really cool, American male makes more money. Then they could give a F about the guy who wants a sweet trail rig. They're gonna go in whatever direction where the money is more. I never liked the looks of the Ridgeline. Past or present. But just like the 3rd gen, someone will. It'll sell, probably just as good as the last generation. I don't think Honda really cares about the truck market as much.

    Yep.

I think they started loosing their way of the stout no non-sense, no bullshit truck, you beat the hell out of, when they went away from the HiLux platform. It is like the beefed up the image, yet softened its' core.

I am thinking the Ridgeline is a niche right in-between the Tacoma and a Subaru Outback. That goldilocks of a vehicle for the average suburbanite home owner.

yeah I agree with you on the less-comfy...more comfy thing. There needs to be a stripped down offroad work horse...with stuff in-between...the tarted up bedazzled urban cowboy version. Not unlike what Ford does with the F150. Maybe since they don't do the volume of Ford, the can't offer as many options.

I mean its like they are trying to appeal to both but the differences really are so minor. Cosmetic here and there, maybe a different tier or addition of a rear locker for what it is, etc. Little disappointing, but otherwise I love my truck to death.

The one on the left is my Chiropractor. We ride together occasionally. She has a jazz band with the other girls called the Saxations. They were putting together a video and Leilani asked if I would help. At the end of the video, the girls are riding away on the backs of Harleys!

Live from the inside out and one will care far less what others think and their opinions on your choices.

As one gets older things change. In the teens, twenties, and thirties, people are very concerned with appearance. When they hit 40 they care but a lot less. When they hit 50's a revelation happens and if they are mentally healthy, they don't care at all what those on the outside looking in thinks , by that time they have learned to live from the inside out and what a beautiful thing that is......not to care about what peers think or say, They just shut that noise out.

I would drive the new Ridgeline and not give it a second thought if it turns out to suit me more than the Tacoma. Hell I sold a Vette to buy a Miata.....I obviously really really don't care about other's opinions.
