HID bulb trouble turning on?

    I have the d2s hid system for my projectors and recently my driver side bulb has not been wanting to come on. If it does, it takes it forever after the truck has been turned on. I have a good connection between the bulb and igniter and since it will eventually come on(maybe 20 minutes sometimes longer) I don't think it's the bulb. Does this sound like a ballast or igniter issue? 35 watt ballasts by the way

    Take the bulb from your passenger side, I'm assuming its good, try it on the driver side. While your at it take the drivers side and try it on the passenger side. See what happens.

    I bet you it's the bulb. Switch bulbs like Brian said to confirm. What ballast?

    Okay I'll try that today thanks guys. And the ballasts are the morimoto xb35. And the bulbs are the morimoto xb d2s. If it is the bulb I may step up to the osrams this time

    It's been on the drivers side where it won't turn on. If it was the box wouldn't you think the whole thing wouldn't work?

    @gym_jamz has given you good advice. I agree with him.

    I thought I saw you mention that it will go on after a little while but not when you first turn on your truck. The only thing I can think of is that usually when you turn on your lights your ballasts give a TREMENDOUS amount of energy to excite the particles inside the bulbs and then go down to the lower level 35W/50W whatever you have. If you ever turn on your lights with your ballasts DISCONNECTED you will hear this thing that sounds like lightning when you first turn it on. It's your ballast creating a big jolt causing an arc to form. Your ballast may not be giving the initial BIG jolt so they will come on but it takes a while for the energy to build up to the point to where the things are 'excited' inside the bulb and shining. I don't think its your controller box since they will come on. Might I suggest (if you bought them from TRS) that you call them and let them know whats going on. They helped me out when I had an issue with one of mine.

    Yeah I did agree when he said it was the ballast. That makes sense to me I'm going to email them and say I've narrowed it down to that. I wasn't sure about the control box because the passenger side comes on immediately. I realized I don't think my drivers side isn't coming on anymore. It was taking it a while to turn on and now I haven't notice it come on in a while

    Yep, totally sounds like the ballast. I highly doubt it the control box. One way to test if it was the control box or the ballast. Switch out the ballast to the other side and try it. You know the bulb is good. You know the wires running to the passenger side are good. Switch over the ballast to the passenger side and try turning it on. If it doesn't go on, problem solved, get you a new ballast. :) I attached my ballasts to the side of my truck with Velcro after having a bad ballast when I initially installed them. Makes it easier to replace if something ever happens.

    Sean sorry to confuse you. Whenever I try to help someone diagnose a problem, I always tell them in this order. Let's say someone with the same problem, drivers side.

    1) Switch bulbs, if it happens on the passenger side, then it's your bulb. If it still happens on your driver's side. Could be the ballast.

    2) Next to make sure, switch ballast. If it happens on the passenger side, then it's your ballast. If it still happens on your driver's side, it's your harness.

    3)Double check the grouds, and your harness. If you're getting a good connection, then it's your motocontrol box.

    I didn't mean to confuse you. Hope you got it!

    Oh okay I should have assumed you meant switch the ballasts! Its all good. I went ahead and emailed them. Its rainy out today and the taco cant fit in the garage so once it dries up ill try it. The only thing is I got everything nice and tidy with a load of zip ties so I have to go undo it all:annoyed:
