yeah we have a 6yr old, 19 month old, and a baby due any day. I was talking to my wife the other day about selling the truck when my daughter walks in and heard us talking and started to cry hysterically and beg me not to sell it. She calls it her truck since she works on it with me and has gone on the last 4 wheeling trips with me. Makes it that much harder to sell it knowing she will be heart broken and probably hate me for a while.

Can you pls take some pics of how you did installed the tether? I cant seem to get it tight on Diono Rainier! The two strap that connects to the main strap seems to leave slack, cant get it tight.

This may not be the best method, but this is how I installed the Radian in a front facing configuration:

    Remove headrest
    Sit restraint in position
Pull tag to unlock seat back in Tacoma
Attach top tether to anchor behind seat and tighten as much as I can
    Lock seat back
Run seatbelt through belt path on Radian and fasten
Engage belt retractor and tighten restraint
    Reinstall headrest

There's just barely enough space for my hand to squeeze behind the seat back and attach the tether. Is that helpful at all? Would you like a pic of the back of the Radian?

I have the Chicco Nextfit Zip in my 15' double cab. It's a tight fit behind the passenger seat, but it's not that bad of a ride. You can't extend the seat all the way back and have all the leg room, but my wife and I are fairly large (6'2"& 5'10") and don't mind sitting there. The seat is super awesome and I'll give a little leg room for safety any day

I don't agree with that. I'm not saying it's the best but all but the biggest rear facing seats seem to fit in the middle without impacting front seat leg room. So if you're having kids 2 years apart or more (much more common than twins) you shouldn't have any issues. Three car seats fit the width so as long as only one of them is rear facing most families are good to go.

Cars (and houses) are unnecessarily huge these days. :annoyed: ...I had a long and rambling old man rant in mind but decided against it. :D I'll just say that we have one kid and we're planning to have another. We're going to keep our DC Tacoma and our 2 bedroom house.

...But if we have twins all bets are off!

Heres the pic showing the problem I'm having. See the V shape strap, connecting to the tether which is going over the seat. I'm unable to tighten the V shape strap no matter how tight i pull the tether strap. There always seems to be some slack.

I thinkn if the V shaped strap is located higher then it seems I will be able tighten nicely.

Hey guys... new to the Forum. I've owned a couple of access cabs in the past... fast forward 10 years and now have 3 kids. They are all forward facing, one in a small booster seat.
My daily driver is an F150 SuperCrew so tons of room for all. I'm considering downsizing since I'm alone in the truck 90% of the time. Our main family vehicle is a new Odyssey so we're good for long trips.

Thoughts or pics on 3 across in a double cab?

Smaller kids will fit 3 accross fine enough. It won't be the roomiest thing in the world however. Last year we did a road trip with the truck since we had to tow a trailer back (AZ to MO) and had our 16yo, 9yo and 7yo all in the back and they are pretty crammed in there but they will fit. What really matters is how well your kids get along in confined spaces for long periods of time. It's my opinion that people make too big of a deal out of having kids and requiring huge vehicles. I have many friends that have one kid and they think they need to buy a conversion van... I mean there is nothing wrong with that (I went to an lx and a Pilot) but a lot of time I think it's unnecessary to spend the money.

Hell, when we had two kids we used my 2 door Prelude as the child hauler and grocery getter. It's all a matter of what you and the kids are willing to live with.

+1 on the Diono radians, we had 2 and traveled on airlines with them, we have graduated to boosters now.

Sounds similar to our family....I have a 7, 5, and 3 year old. The other car is even an Odyssey. Once the oldest graduated to a small booster, I was able to have all three in the backseat. It’s tight, but works. I’ll get a picture later.

That said I’ve really been thinking about tundras lately, even though I drive alone 90% of the time.

We have a 6 yr old and a 3 month old and no complaints as far as room. My wife and I are both fairly short. The new baby was my way of rationalizing trading my ext.cab Sierra for the double cab Tacoma and we are both glad I did.

All three are cheap Cosco seats since the girls usually ride in the van. The one in the passenger side is the Scenaro, which my three year old is about to out grow. When she does, I’ll buy another Finale, which is the one on the driver’s side. That one is narrower so the fit will get better. You can see how the one on the passenger side overlaps the booster belt “bullhorn”.
