Yes sir we are just really tough this year even with Orpik and Carlson out our D is still clicking. I was at the Verizon Center around 3:30 today before the game and there is just buzz like I have never seen before pretty awesome season so far. I hope we keep it rolling along still a lot of hockey left.

Holy - Johansen just got kicked out of a face off, ran his mouth and now he's in the box. Unsportsmanlike penalty called by the linesman. When is the last time that happened?

I didn't even know the linesman can call that. They can't in minor.

The refs were all over the game. They called two embellishment penalties that really didn't need to be calls at all. One went to each team. Johannsen was definitely running his mouth though. The game got really heated, so I imagine the ref was likely at his wits end when Johannsen got the gate.

I wonder at what point the Edmonton fans will actually stop showing up. Talk about brutal. At least the Leafs have had some hopeful years and a playoff series. The Oil can't even get there after all of those number 1 picks.

The number 1 picks are just fine. It's the bullshit crap-tacular defense core - and anyone on the 3rd and 4th lines. Nothing to do with the number 1's. It's everything to do with the fuck-heads, Kevin Lowe and Craig MacTavish, in charge for too long, putting all those other shit pieces in place. It'll take PC and TM a while before those major mistakes can be erased.

If you look at the way Edmonton drafted though this should be the time when they start competing at the top of the league. Right now they still look the same as they did when they drafted Hall.

They can't always be waiting for these guys to hit their stride and elevate the team to somewhere it might not belong. I get it that Edmonton has a terrible D core and goal tending issues but those are things plenty of teams have got past with a fair bit of ease. I mean Edmonton has enough attractive assets to rearm and that's what most teams that have had this experience would of done by now. It's getting to that point of "why the fuck don't they make some moves and see where they end up?" Throwing out a whole bunch of assets and taking a risk on some deals worked for Dallas to be perfectly honest. Maybe the plan is to wait until McDavid is old enough to matter, and not hurt of course, and then use those players to setup the team around him with some blockbuster deals but until then this is just a continual process of underachievement from what should be a competitive roster.

Yeah I get that but do you really think it's worth holding on to all of these guys? I think some wheeling and dealing could be necessary.

The problem - as I noted - was the people in charge. Lowe and Mact. They absolutely refused to move any of the assets for the other areas of the team, lacking strength. They kept on facing the media, and telling them that they were going to slowly build for the future. And eventually pick up all the needed pieces. But that simply doesn't work. They fucked around too long. The D was never shored up - other than future hopefuls Nurse and Klefbom. They have 4 or 5 amazingly talented forwards - but that's it. Look at Lander.......how the fuck is he even in the NHL???? In 44 games this season - as a Center - he's only got 2 assists. No goals!! That's mental!!
But until Peter and Todd can undo the mess - and slowly rid themselves of the shit that Lowe and Mact added......the Oilers will flounder.
As much as I like Nuge and Ebs.......someone has to be dealt - to pick up some balance.

Never happen in a million years. Unless you've been living under a rock - you'll know that the Oilers have new Management and Coach's. And with a brand new arena that they'll move into next season.....the Oilers will not be going anywhere for decades.

    Sad.

I know this is optimistic but I think the Leafs are 2 years away from icing a very good team if they can keep JVR and Kadri plus surround them with 2-3 more good forwards from a very deep offensive Marlies team. I just don't see Edmonton there at this point. Maybe another #1 draft pick would do it :p

Calgary isn't getting a new building. I could see them moving. I know that sounds like it would never happen but Bettman really fucked the dog hard on the radio locally a couple of days ago and now people don't want a cent going into the building from public funds. What a mess.

Seattle won't get a team until they have a building. The NHL wants to be there but they aren't going to give away a Diamond without having a band ready for it.

I sure hope not. I would honestly prefer that the Oilers miss the playoffs by a position or 2 (or 3)....than get another high pick. The publicity from that is so damaging.
I just hope that with McDavid back soon - and hopefully a trade for solid D man - they can salvage things this season. And build off it for next.
