TFL did a fun little shootout. Wish they had done a quarter mile. I think the gen 3 would have won that one.

Nice find...would have been a better comparison if the first gen was an auto. Looks like the 3rd gen only had about 2 mpg increase over the 2nd gen in real world testing.

2 mpg is the EPA difference too.

Did I miss something, the last value it shows for fuel added to the 2nd Gen was 4.397 gallons and and it was 4.406 for the 3rd Gen. Somehow they found an additional 2 mpgs on the 3rd Gen though.

They always wait 30 seconds then put more fuel in until pump cuts off. They don't show them putting more in. Hence Andre saying "So, so far I'm doing okay with the 2nd gen."

Welp, I'm off to find a gas can and some matches. No sense in keeping my 3 gen.

This is why I wish they had just given us the 4.0 liter 4Runner engine.

These guys are turds. When they did a previous video about the Tacoma TRD off road which was actually a TRD Sport with the wrong decal, it was a pretty clear indication that they know less about Tacomas than 90% of the people on this forum.

Agreed, they're a bunch of "look I have a dealer provided Sienna, let's go take it off road" jackfucks.
    Beats other content though.

Na I don't believe it was. He mentioned there was a reason it was able to keep up, but wouldn't say what.

They probably didn't use the Sport shift mode and maybe did not use the ect mode on the 3rd gen.. If they had done the Sport shift mode from a stop and shifted near or at redline it would have smoked both of them.

Nathan's 2004 Taco is stock with manual. The First gen manuals were actually pretty ballsy off the line. All their power was low in the RPM range. On the highway though my gen 1 has no passing power and hates grades.

I was surprised that the 3rd gen with 42 extra HP didn't blow the doors off the 2nd gen. As someone said, maybe with more distance it would of. I guess the old racing adage that there's no substitute for displacement still holds up! Of course, who races a Tacoma? haha. They're slower than turtles.
