We ran Crystal Geyser and came out right there, but headed back east.

 

or tearing down trucks all day...

saving grace last year was kokopelli route coming in...

really hoping to hit hole in the rock before the gathering...maybe we can squeeze in 10mile before things pick up too...

there's a slight chance we'll have both trucks out there again this year

 

there's a lot of shit back in there...could always camp in that area and knock out all the trails...

 

oh man, i'm getting antsy to get back there

Sounds a little scratchy but super fun. I really want to test out my new suspension setup on some go fast sandy stuff!!

 

James and I put like 100 miles on dirt that day and there's still a ton to be explored. Pretty neat area that seems to get overlooked. Hell, we probably wouldn't have hit it if it weren't for the snow. You could easily spend two days exploring there.

I was just there and wouldn't mind going back. You live in the wrong place!

 

Would a slightly modified prerunner (TRD Off Road so rear Locker, Sliders, should have a winch by then and will probably be running on close to 32's and have a solid amount of recovery gear but stock suspension/travel) be able to keep up on enough trails around there to be worth the trip? I know there's bound to be some trails I couldn't manage, but I also know the PreRunners can get a lot farther than most folks seem to believe.

Maybe some of the CO/UT/WY guys could give a judgement since so many coastal dwellers seem to think you need a 4x4 in any condition harsher than light drizzle and a moderate breeze...

 

When I went last year I saw enough to say without a doubt you can succeed or fail with any rig!

I watched a Prerunner bound up TOTW and a lifted 4x4 shred a spindle on the same trail... it all depends on luck and how you choose to drive. With the right timing and enough momentum, 2wd can get you plenty far.

You'll be fine. There's trails rated from Prius level up to never been done and in between.

There was a lifted prerunner that made the entire TOTW trail (full loop) without a scratch, and at least three 4x4s (mine included) that suffered damage (2x driveshafts...mine included...and 1x rear diff and spindle). The prerunner smartly took the bypass that chewed up the three 4x4s.
Some trails you'll need to stay away from. Others will give you a good challenge. And others you'll have an easy time with. Just ask around.
