This requires you to get under the truck since there is no dipstick for ATF fluid. If I remember correctly, once you loosen the bolt, if fluid comes out then it's full. Someone else probably knows more than that though.

I took my TRD back to the dealer with concerns about trans fluid being low because when slowing down I'm getting a vibration when the transmission is downshifting and after reading many posts about new tacos being delivered with low trans fluid. I asked them to check it and after a 1 1/2 hour wait and a 5 mile test drive by the " tech " I was told its the tires and thats just the way they are .they wouldnt even check the balance. I'm just going to check all fluid levels myself. does anyone know when haynes 2016 manuals should be available ? My dealer told me a factory service manual on cd was not available yet and when it is it will cost around $700.00 ....no thanks... My scan tool does not read trans fluid temp so I want to be sure the jumper wire procedure and temp check mode is the same for the new 6 speed as the gen 2 5 speed.

Just ran my 2nd gen thru the dealer for a trans fluid check, been hearing the trucks with the tow package have been coming up low fluid, mine was almost a quart low, explains the the rough shift problem I've been complaining about.
Seems like no one checks the trans fluid during the dealer prep...
I believe the the trans cooler holds just under a quart, which is how low my fluid was!:frusty:

At what mph does your vibration occur? I to have an OR 4x4 and from 15-25 I get a vibration, rather slowing down, steady at the speed, or accelerating. I have been trying to get a service scheduled but that's a challenge in its self. I am thinking my driveshaft is the issue or some really bad balanced tires, but I am interested in the tranny fluid theory.

Gotta do while the engine is running (there is more fluid in the pan once the engine is off).

Get an OBDII Bluetooth dongle and the Torque app. Then you can just monitor trans temp directly.

The vibration starts around 25 mph down to around 10 . I also feel it when cruising at 27-30. I'm going to test drive with tire psi low at 20psi and then hi at 45psi to see if there is a change in vibration or if it stops . This should confirm if its the tires. I do not feel it when accelerating only slowing and cruising between 27-30.

Your symptoms mimic mine virtually identically, they have a thread about u joints, the guy said his truck had less vibration after greasing u joints, I want to try this but also don't want Toyota trying to point the finger at me for tampering with the truck. It seems as if our problem isn't that common, I am hoping to get this fixed, it drives me crazy. Also I will refuse to accept its the tires, if that comment comes out of my dealerships mouth I will ask them to pull wheels from a sport or sr5 and go take a drive. We shall see

I have the same issue. Dealer said it was normal but I don't believe that's the case. And if it was the tires, there would be vibrations at all different speeds and conditions. My truck is very smooth at hwy speeds

I've stated this on other threads and the dealer gave me the same "it is just the tires" story. However, everyone on here with our problem seems to be driving the TRD OR. So i am sort of beginning to believe it. I never thought about lowering and raising PSI to check tires. Please let us know if you get anything different

The Kevlars are reported to have balance issues...
Or, your pinion angle could be all over the place; a.k.a. axle wrap.
    Checked torque on your u-bolts?

So did you have that problem with your TRD OR and that led you to check it? If it did, did the tightening fix the issue?

I have an a$$ load of weights on all of my wheels, so could be a possibility, only reason leading me not to believe is any other speed its perfect. I guess my pinion angle could be off but truck is factory so unless its off from factory?? I did torque the Ubolts I believe to 70 lb.

No, no problems for me; just doing all I can to prevent it from what I know of the 2nd gen.
Toyota specs state 52ft/lbs. on 3rd gen 37ft/lbs on 2nd gen.
    I think that's anemic; I cranked mine to 75 ft/lbs.

I think I read you first post wrong.
If your getting the vibe at those speeds, regardless of steady speed/acceleration/deceleration, probably not the pinion angle.

I mean I don't know maybe it could be just a OR thing, I am going to go test drive some OR this weekend I guess. A guy here on base has an OR and also says he has the vibration. I think its kind of odd to have so many vehicles with vibration at same mph if it was wheel/tires, or am I wrong?

I own the Off Road and thought that vibration was the rear drum brakes. It seem to be getting worse rather than better. Still nothing drastic but it shouldn't be there on a brand new truck.
